As a kid in the YMCA- Indian Guides. I remember my dad taking a gallon sized baked beans can and did the following:
1. Dump beans into a container
2. Form ground meat into patty’s
Place on bottom of can
3. Add chopped or sliced onions
4. Season
5. Pour back the baked beans with added BBQ sauce
6. Cover with aluminum foil
7. Slide some coals from the fire and place can on top of the coals
8. Rotate can
This is what I remember. I’m sure I missed a step or something

We cook mulligan stew over the campfire a couple times a year. We have a tripod that will hold our cast iron pot. It picks up some of the smoke flavor and taste amazing.
Tripod is under $40 at lowes... Lowes

As a person who camps a good bit I highly recommend that if your cabin has a kitchen you use that. Having your fire temp right is 90% of the battle and isn't the easiest thing to do. One or two nights maybe cook on the fire but there is a reason you don't see people cooking on their fire pits at home.
Also lighting and extinguishing a fire to cook breakfast and lunch is just silly.

It's hard to beat any kind of stew cooked on an open fire

Instead of cooking every meal over a fire, why not set up a table and Coleman stove?
