You can still get them. Rouses owns the rights now.
Buttermilk drops ftw

How come I never see any love for Mary Lee in these threads? That shite is awesome.

I haven't had a donut in about 10 years, I'm on day 4 of Atkins induction, and I'm getting a mouth-watery boner right now. Tastee was always my favorite. It was ridiculous when Krispy Kreme opened across from the Tastee on Clearview and people flocked towards it for a pretty long time. Pretty sure both are still open, so I guess enough people saw the truth and went back to Tastee.

Do I read you correctly? You're saying Rouses has the rights to McKenzies Buttermilk Drops? If so, I'm passing there on my way home!

I'd kill a man for some McKenzie's donuts, a McKenzie's king cake, or about a half a dozen of their petit fours.....
The taste of my youth right there....

How did Rouse's get the recipes? I know for a fact that Tastee acquired them in the McKenzie's bankruptcy. The Clearview location still sells some McKenzie's items like Blackout Cake, King Cake and Buttermilk Drops.

You don't have to kill anyone...just wait till Carnival season. Tastee sells McKenzie's king cakes now. And yes, they are still the quality, old fashioned, non-filled, non-glazed awesomeness. The only problem is they just make one size so you can't get a large one with the cherry and sprinkles on each of the four "corners" of the cake.

shame on everyone in this thread not mentioning McKenzie's greatest product.....their cinnamon rolls

Is the Cloverleaf bakery off of Carrolton still around?

Meh, overrated. I mean I'd love to have one just for the sentimental value. But really they werent that great.
The king cakes were better FWIW.

I've never been, but I want to go to
Tourette's Guy made it seem like a place where I'd want to go.

Are there others on here old enough to remember the commercials with Dick Bruce eating the weekly specials for McKenzie's? That was the job to which I aspired as a very young kid.
