I gave Turkey and the Wolf another shot. Their burger is pretty good.

They have a whopper/big Mac style burger for $8.99 which is close the a Whopper price. So this was really good value for what you get. Also fries were pretty good. Good flavor but salty for me(I'm low sodium)
Funny to see $14 bologna sandwich same lettuce for greens then a burger for$8.99.
Most other burgers in the city are more for smash style.

Take next to me had a salad that liked good too. May try that next time.

Only thing I found odd. Not a big deal. But 15% service charge. I tipped my $2 change too. But then they brought me the food but then said "would you like ketchup?" And I said yes to that they said "is over there". And again not a huge deal. Many counter service are like that. And you bus yourself. So the service fee is only for the food runners? It's one of those things. Like how 3% never bothered no one but we still hate credit card fees.
Food was good. Mine was served on Death Star plate. Fresh and fast.

They've been doing the auto-grat/service charge thing for awhile. They tried to go "tipless" and that went over poorly

Their salads are very good. I haven't been there in awhile though

On a side note, just today, Hungry Eyes announced that reservations are going to be only for a tasting menu they are going to introduce after a brief shutdown/reno(?), and walkins will be able to get drinks and small bites

Not sure how his places are doing these days to be honest with this and then Hot Stuff shutting down

Make the $8.99 burger $10.35 and tack on no fees. Easy.

Yeah that is basically what they did. They fricked up by virtue signaling as fake commies tend to do and writing a whole post about going tipless and paying living wages etc etc

And you would have thought they announced they voted for Trump. It was a complete meltdown online, there was a long thread on here laughing about it

They had to retract and go with the service charge thing, or at least that is how I remember it

Tons of places do this now. Its not just them

All of these places can get fricked. Make your prices known up front. If you include a service charge on the backend, your server is not getting a penny in tip from me. If the servers don't like that, they can get their management to change how they do business. You want me to tip 20% to make up for you not paying your servers minimum wage, you aren't also sticking me with some bullshite fee on the back end.

Nonsense like this is also why I rarely sit down to dine out these days

What's the inherent difference between them doing the 15% thing and you tipping 20% anyway

If I'm not having to tip any more, ok I guess. That doesn't feel like what's been expected of me as a consumer though.

ETA: But again, I wan that cost just shown in the menu price. Don't hide it til the end.

I think the point is, at least at most places, that you are not obligated to tip more but you could do that extra 5% if you want

In fact I have seen some of these places actually give you the option of 3/5/7% or something

Feels weird to call that a service charge instead of an auto gratuity. Is all that fee really going straight to the server?

I believe it goes to the entire staff including kitchen workers since at a place like that they don't have traditional servers

Its interesting because in other places around the world, they have standard "service charges" and sometimes that goes to the staff, sometimes its just basically a cover charge etc

In Argentina basically every mid to higher end place has what is essentially a cover charge of like 4-6 dollars on top of what you are paying for food, and they tip 10% there too

The service charge doesn’t necessarily go to wait staff and is included in the tax base of your food making it even more expensive than gratuity would, for starters

Turkey and the Wolf doesn't really have a "wait staff"

You asked the difference, I told you. The comment you just made, while irrelevant, gives even more credence to what I explained to you. A “service charge” is just an increase in cost that is revenue to the restaurant. Gratuity is not

I don't think I've had a Whopper in 20+ years, but it's not their version of the Big Mac is it? Isn't it the BK version of the quarter pounder with cheese?

Went twice, food was sub par, service was terrible and the service charge thing sealed it for me. The second time was a revisit after deciding to give it another shot. One less customer to get in the way.

You’re talking about a place owned by a communist POS that I’m pretty sure all but jizzed on himself after one of the Trump assassination attempts
