Yep. Plastic really isn't a substitute. Smoothie King realized this and started offering some kind of more biodegradable foam cup.

Not sure where you live but here in New Orleans we cannot recycle items numbered 3 on up. Only #s 1&2. Glass you need to bring to a specific place. So for all you tree huggers talking about not using styrofoam I'm using it until I cannot. Great for drinks, daiquiris, smoothies, jambalaya, and whatever else. When recycling businesses start recycling more numbers I will throw it in my recycling bin. Until then get off my lawn with talk about single-use and styrofoam earth killing pollutants. It's legal. My one straw and styrofoam cup goes into the garbage. What the company does with my waste is out of my hands.

Personally I do try to avoid single use plastics, but sometimes Zip Lock bags are just too convenient. Straws are dumb though.
Interesting note; the single largest visible pollutant in Baton Rouge waterways are Circle K Cups and Gator Gulps.

Thanks for the update.
Here’s a very simple thought without creating a thread to show everyone how mindful (and consumed by the thought) you are.. restaurants happily welcome you bringing your own containers for your to-go food. Hope you like spit
I also bring a reusable cup for coffee, and a container if I’m going to a small place for soup. But if I forget I don’t make myself feel like shite about it
CSB: in line at the grocery store and this man starts screaming because the woman in front of him is buying plastic water bottles, “I wouldn’t drink out of a plastic water bottle if it was the last thing on earth!” (Doubt that)..... this dumb Oregon redneck comes up and sure enough..... plastic around his single meal burritos. CLASSIC. Yes I called him out.
