How long can you leave gumbo out?

Last night I made a Falcon (chicken) gumbo and I was going to put the pot with the rest of it in the garage refrigerator. I set it in the garage to cool off, got caught up in the game (and drinking), forgot about it and my first thought this morning was, 'Frick, the gumbo!'
It only got down to around 50 last night. Toss the whole thing?

There are so many details associated with this, but it is more than likely fine NOW.
Past today, it is up in the air based on the details on the prep.

actually it was cold enough last night...you should be fine...you should be able to tell from the smell...if it smells sour...toss it.

ditto
my husband has done this before and we all lived. he gets too drunk/tired to clean when we're camping so the gumbo pot just stays outside

You guys would really eat a gumbo left out overnight? I don't care what the temperature was last night. No way I'd eat it.

According to the board of health it wouldn't be any good and if you had a restaurant you would have to toss it.
But you arent a restaurant so I would give it a taste test and if it tastes and smells alright it should be ok. Won't keep as long in the fridge as usual but I'm sure it would be good for a few days.

If it's to the point that I have to smell food to see if it's ok, I'm not eating it. I guess I'm just paranoid about food.

I just love it when your loved one says, "Smell this milk and tell me if it's OK"

All the time, especially if it gets below 50.

So as long as it's below 50 degrees and make sure you smell it first. That's just gross.

You realize most refrigerators are running at around 40 degrees??

THat's why you have a nose.

Like I said, I'm just paranoid about food going bad. One case of food poisoning is all it took.

I do it all the time in the winter. One of my worse arse chewings from my wife came after I had made an awesome duck, oyster and andouille gumbo. It was so good it would make your tongue hard. I left it out and my lab got it. Wifey was pissed.
Come to think of it, we'll leave one out all day at the camp sometimes.

Not really, it's not much different than putting it in the fridge.
