I will be in the quarter this week with some folks from out of state and think K-pauls would have some novelty that they would enjoy. We don't really enjoy very formal dining, but good food is a must.

Is this restaurant decent?

Good meal the few times we've been, always get the seafood mirliton appetizer when they have it.

I've only been back for lunch since Chef Paul passed - but that was as good as ever. For what it is worth, my lunches there have been much more enjoyable than my dinners - I've not been a particular fan of their waitstaff through the years and lunch minimizes that aspect.

It's been about 5 years since I've eaten there. When I did the food was very good and i'll say the fried oysters are some of the best I've ever eaten in my life. I would eat there again.

It's not too formal. Food is really good. I have never had a bad meal there. I love the bread they bring out too.

Last time I got the redfish, still one of the best in the city.

One of my favorite restaurants in the world.

Always a fantastic meal, excellent service, and overall experience. Highly recommend.

I've never had a bad meal there. I've brought many friends from out-of-state there, as well as to the other most famous NO restaurants (Commanders, August, Brennan's, Emerils, etc) and all of them love KPauls. I also enjoy their "deli-style" lunches, which vary week-to-week but are always cheap and delicious.

I find it to be a tourist trap. I've been once with my wife and was VERY disappointed. Will not go again

IMO, this is a place that isn't innovative anymore but they created some iconic dishes and they still do everything well. Time may make the menu less interesting to some but it doesn't make the product less good. Prudhomme was a master at building flavor and his dishes are delicious but usually heavy.

If you're going to be so harsh to a restaurant that has been so consistently good for such a long time, you should probably explain what you didn't like about it. Not saying you don't have a reason but I generally give credit to old restaurants who seem to deliver the same dishes for so long and do them well. I'm not sure how many people realize how difficult that is to do.

Is it a tourist trap because it serves Blackened Redfish? You do know Prudhomme invented the dish and started a national craze don't you? There are so many horrific places to get classic Creole/Cajun dishes that I don't know how anyone who visits LA can consider the shite they usually get served, good. If anything, K-Pauls is one of the few places I'd recommend a tourist go if that's the kind of food they were seeking out.
