In 1993, while attending North Lake College in Irving, TX my Spanish class took a field trip to an authentic Mexican Restaurant. The menu was in spanish and the waitress did NOT speak English.
That was the 1st time I ever tried a Horchata...its a drink made with rice, milk, and cinnamon. Think of the milk after you eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Its light and refreshing.
Well...for some reason I had the urge to make it...and it came out FANTASTIC!!!
This is the recipe I used except I used 2 cups of rice not 1 and a 1/2. And I did NOT add extra sugar.
Give it a try...its delicious!!!
Horchata
If you want to try it...La Mexicana on Siegen behind Twin Peaks has it!!!

Mi cuevita on Old Hammond @ Sherwood Forest has it as well. Hidden gem restaurant.

Peanut butter horchata at Alma in NOLA is best I’ve ever had.

Horchata is good, but what about tamarindo?
Mr Taco used to have it, not sure if anyone else does now

There's a paleta place in Conyers, Ga that makes it with the chufa nut. I like it better than the rice concoction.

Her Horchata is very good! She has quite a lot of authentic Mexican recipes posted to YouTube. If you like to make your own salsa she has an outstanding red, and green recipes, along with an excellent avocado salsa. All are very easy, and quick to make.

This is so random and weird. I was given a sample of horchata yesterday at a street taco restaurant. It reminded me of cinnamon toast crunch also.

Go find a gas station around lunch, and ask the dirtiest guy you see, "¿Dónde puedo encontrar un buen tamarindo?"
