I could never get full use of my conicals due to my inability to temp control them. I really liked them but it was just difficult when I was only able to use them in the winter and even then it really was only useful for Belgian beers.

Hell if you have an upright full fridge or freezer that you could use as a fermentation chest, I will sell my two plastic 6.5 gallon conicals with a wood rack for less than that 1 conical.

You still have those?

I don't need more fermentors. I don't need more fermentors. I don't need more fermentors.

Unfortunately. I have the space to store them without being in the way, so I forget that I have them and stop trying to sell them. Then I will remember that they are still in my shed and bring them up.

I believe that they are the precursor to this brand. Name isnt the same but they look almost identical. Thinking that the original company sold to FastFerment.

Finally kegged by Brett pale ale yesterday.

Ended up with more funk than I was expecting, but love everything else about this beer.

Sorry B, No detectable band-aid.

Why isn't this thread stickied anymore. Had to use the search function damnit.

Anywho, brewed for the first time in about 8 months.....busy I am......and lazy.....Brewed the 7th iteration of my Zappa Dust IPA.....using some Motueke Hops this time as they didnt have Galaxy at the LHBS. Guy at LHBS said it is citrus/passion fruit. Anybody ever used them?

For not having brewed in a while, I had a really smooth brewday. Only hiccup was my water hose quick connect cracked when I connected to my chiller plate. So I had to scramble around and find a new quick connect. Never can seem to find a female....thread when I need it. My Mash efficeincy was crazy....90%.....which is causing this IPA to be at around 7.8% when I was shooting for about 5.5%.....didnt feel like diluting it since everything else went so well....

Also used 2.5oz of fresh hops (nugget) from my garden.

Wow. Major props on that 2.5 oz of homegrown hops

On a brewing network podcast (the session), I feel like I heard a brewer complain about Motueka hops. But I think it was when using at more than 10 mins in boil or hot side. Sounds like a tasty hop when the temps get lower and on the "other side" of isomerazation. That's my 2 cents.

Also just requested sticky

I got 6oz of Motueka from BinQ's half off homebrew clearance sale. Just gotta find time to brew something with them.

Kegged an amber ale Saturday, and looking like Thursday for kegging my IPA and pumpkin coffee porter.

ordered up my next IPA. Dash of wheat, dash of oats, and citra. Lots and lots of citra.

Has anyone tried using a sous vide device for strike/sparge water temperature control?

We have one... and I've thought about using it to mash before but I don't really want the grains and sugars getting into the circulation... although it might work well with a BIAB setup. I've never thought about using it for strike water or sparge water, but it does make sense, especially for the sparge water.

One of the redstick guys was doing this (or something similar) and said it worked pretty well.

He originally wanted to put it on a delay timer to have the strike water ready when he got home from work or woke up in the morning, but couldn't find a model with a delayed start timer.

Don't know about a delayed start, but there is an Anova one out there with wifi controls so you could get it started from work so it's ready when you get home.

My juice ipa came out really really good. Very well received by some serious beer drinkers. It's very ghost-like.

Regarding your brett pale ale, my next brew will be a citra brett pale ale, with OYL-218 all the bretts. Did you do a 100% brett pitch, or a sach then brett pitch? How long before adequate funk levels?

I used 100% brett for this beer.

The brett character what apparent almost immediately, but it's pretty low.

It's obvious that it's not a sacch fermentation, but the brett character doesn't come close to what you can get in a mixed fermentation.

Pretty sure NOLA uses a 100% brett pitch of this or the East Coast Yeast version of this blend for Sauvage
