I just think it would be a new hobby for me, something to do that could be fun and maybe I could try some new things. I've been interested since I started drinking beer

Measured Pre-boil volume, 7 gallons
Measured pre-boil gravity, 1.075 (corrected for temps)

according to beersmith, 98% efficiency. Holy shite!

Just tasted the pre-boil wort. I'm liking it. The mouthfeel, already is very smooth. Very roasty. I can't wait till this thing is ready to drink in a month.

My extended brew cycle is coming to a close. I pitched my yeast and will let this open ferment for a few days and then transfer to the barrel.

ETA: yeast in pitcher obviously hasn't been pitched. everything got put in the white bucket

You know that that's not necessarily a good thing and damn near impossible right?

You might want to make sure all of your measurements are calibrated and correct.

I was consistently in the 75 - 80% range and have stopped taking readings. I only measure now before bottling to make sure I'm below 1.008

Well my target was 1.07 OG. I'm at 1.08 OG. Estimate brewhouse efficiency at 82%. Everything has been calibrated the same. I have not changed any settings since i first calibrated for all-grain.

So whether or not i nailed it, or it's bad calibration, i'm hitting my targets. And this time, i actually hit a higher OG than anticipated. It is possible my thermometer was off, but i don't know. I guess it's a wait and see now.

I mashed at 154. It tastes damn good too. And right at 5.5 hours.

I wouldn't trust temp corrected readings. Get a $25 refractometer.

Hell. I don't really have a great way to measure my boil kettle volumes. It's always a guess for me.

Yeah i need to do this. I do, however, believe i did get a higher efficiency than normal, seeing as i beat my target by .01.

To measure volumes, i made some marks on my plastic boil paddle. 1 mark for every gallon. I did this early on. So when i dip the paddle it, if it reaches a certain mark, then i know how much wort i have.

I think, technically it's a 6.5

I like it for the head space to cut down on blow offs
