I've never used leaf hops before, how long will they stay good in the freezer? I found some I'd like to use but it will probably be late spring before I can use them.

Wish I could help but I've only ever used pellets. I would think vacuum sealing them and freezing them they should last thru the spring. You can purchase leaf hops year round so they must store ok.

Good luck brewing.
I am on the fence about brewing today. I was going to try and brew a beer after work today but I don't know if I feel like starting that late. I may just wake up early and tackle it in the morning.

Anyone ever try to recondition a used bourbon barrel?
I have a bourbon barrel i bought a few years ago. Used it once for a beer, then let it sit. Well, some of the bands have fallen off because the barrel has shrunk.
I thought that maybe rehydrating the whole barrel might work. Was thinking of filling up a large tupperware container with water, then submerging the barrel in there with the bands held in place. Wonder if this will work, or if a couple years without touching it has made it basically useless.

I'd be more concerned with the inside rather than the whether or not the barrel would hold water. You would have to clean the shite out of the barrel in order to convince me to put beer in it.

Well that's the 2nd part. It's been sealed, but yeah, i know critters can eek their way through the staves. I could PBW and Star San it a few times. When i first bought the barrel i purchased a barrel cleaning kit, but it took a month to come in the mail.
Meh, screw it, i'll stick to adding oak staves to beers.

At this point, I think your only real cleaning option is to try and steam clean it or re-char it. I have steam cleaned one before and while it works it is a pain in the arse.

PBW and star-san don't need to go in your barrel. Both are not good for it. I let mine sit for a year or so one time, and I got it back in to shape by putting the rings back on and filling it with boiling water. Rinse. Repeat. Rinse. Repeat. It got all the old stuff out and swelled up the barrel nicely. I used it for a sour stout and ended up alright. One of my first sours, so rough around the edges, but not bad.
I'd never trust an old barrel to a clean beer, but that's just me. YMMV.

I went with 3 7-oz bags on coconut in mine and after a week it was great. Kegging it tomorrow.

Brewing Tomorrow. I'm pumped. Got a 1.5 liter starter going right now. I'm brewing a piney ipa, using WLP090 San Diego Super Yeast. I got the new white labs pure pitch vials. I find it strange they don't indicate cell count on the packaging. I also preferred white labs vials because i didn't have to worry about whether or not the scissors were clean and sanitized. I soaked them in star san for a few minutes but i'm still leary of the idea.

ended up hunting all day and didnt clean out the keg or get the beer in the fridge to cold crash it, so again, kegging tomorrow

Y'all ever had a ball lock gas QD not want to lock all the way down? I can get it to snap down if I force down the locking cap, but it still leaks. I'm not sure if it's an o-ring on the post or the post itself is messed up. I have spare rings and posts, so I might start with the o-ring and go from there.

I want to say I saw that the new packages were still 100 billion cells.

They're the least of your worries.

I don't get it. What's the problem with the old vials?
