I will have to give Bulleit a try, seems to be reasonably priced and easy to find.

I have to thank the F&D board for saving me money on XR, I must admit I was tempted! From the vast majority on here, seems to be found wanting, lol.

For something more unique, try Glen Breton. Tough to find sometimes, but it's a Canadian single malt whiskey.

Hard to describe, but it's almost similar to a Scotch, but has definite Bourbon overtones. It's very smooth and easy to drink.

It's nothing special, just the last whiskey from the Waterloo distillery before it burned. So it's "rare" but that doesn't mean it's any better.

I prefer the Cask 16 to the XR too. The Cask 16 seems smoother. Not a big Crown Drinker but it will do when there is no scotch around.

The original release of crown XR is now ending (waterloo distillery stuff) but now they have released another blue XR which is supposed to be 15-20 year age range from another distillery. However, it is definitely not worth the money. Cask 16 is probably around the 50-60 range and XR is probably $150 at least.

Like the rest have said, try some high quality sipping bourbon or scotch.

BTW: picked up a balblair 37 year old from adelphi today for right about $130. Amazing for the price.
