Has anyone tried Crown Royal Cask 16 or XR?

I have tried crown, black, and reserve and had to mix all of them with coke or something. That is ok but I like crown and am looking for something I can sip on the rocks. Will cask 16 suffice? Or have you found you have to go all the way to the XR?

Buy better whiskey if you're unable to take it neat or on the rocks.

Don't bother with XR, in my opinion.

That is kind of the point of the thread, I will be buying better, just can't decide between cask 16 or XR since I haven't tried either.

Sounds good, that is what I am looking for, how much should this run me? Who has it cheap?

sounds like cask 16 may be enough of an upgrade to not have to mix but out of curiousity what makes you say this? Over priced?

I'm curious, what is it about Crown Royal that you enjoy? It's not even rye-based anymore.

Yes. It's nothing special, just the last whiskey from the Waterloo distillery before it burned. So it's "rare" but that doesn't mean it's any better.

I got a bottle of cask 16 for my graduation with a card telling my not to open it til I got a job. I was finally able to try it 2 weeks ago (six months after getting it.) I enjoyed it, but I can't say that I would spend the money for it myself.

Idk, had a lot when I was going thru LSU and it just stuck I guess. I always mixed it though and now I don't mix much of anything. Most everything I drink these days is neat or on the rocks. Depending on feedback in this thread I may actually move away from crown.

XR is just a marketing scheme. Same quality it is just extra rare due to the fact that the distillery no longer exists.

That would be my suggestion. There are just too many other better whiskeys out there.

I think a good transition to bourbon would be something like Elijah Craig or Maker's, which are both similar to blended in some regards. They're both a little too sweet for my taste but you may really love them.

If you want to get serious and you want to stick with traditional Canadian style then try a rye whiskey like Whistlepig or Bulleit. Both are great.

I have.....got elijah craig 18yr and blanton's at home. Good stuff. I don't like drinking the same thing every night, depends on my mood.

Sorry man. That was a little dickish on my part. It just sounded like you were pretty hung up on Crown.

Just had to mess with you, bored at work, no big deal, but I agree with you, bourbon is good stuff!
