Hacienda Grande Mexican Restaurant "Review"

Ok, I liked the food.
They put effort in making the place look good.
They are a nice and friendly folks. Authentic folk.
It's just...just...I don't want to dump on these people.
The things that bother me aren't about the food. It's stuff like the painted ceiling tiles. They are curled up and the over spray got on the light fixtures. It's the painted bathroom stalls. They look freaking hideous. Don't go in there unless you have to.
It's the fact that on the menu they tell you that you get one refill when the drink costs $2.25. Nobody, I mean nobody charges for refills. Having that on the menu just irks people. I don't want to be thinking about such shite when I'm eating. Especially if they refill my glass when it's still 1/3 full. But I digress.
If the building were newer, I would be much more enthused about this restaurant. Ever walk into a place and you can "feel" the building? It feels old, rundown and depressed.
The place needs festive lighting, both inside and out. It needs a ceiling renovation. And it needs a bathroom renovation.
Holy frick! Why can't the owners see this crap? Do I have laser eyes? God damn right I have laser eyes!
But hey, if you are in the area, give it a try. Just don't look up, go the the bathroom or drink too much soda.

Authentic folk as in Hispanics?
It always seems like places that have the best and most authentic hispanic food is run by people that are completely oblivious to how to run a business. Some of those places could be gold mines if they had any clue as to what the frick they were doing outside of the kitchen. Bad lighting, atmosphere, location, prices, etc can be just as much of a turnoff as bad food and drinks.

We have so many options these days.
A place can be lacking in atmosphere, but it better have great food, great drinks, tradition or something else going for it. Places like Pastime and Georges.
Or a place can have mediocre food, but it better be updated, clean, and consistent. Hate on 'em if you want, but this is what most chains offer.
There's a Mex restaurant in Atlanta that used to have really good (not great) food, but something about the smell of the place I couldn't deal with.

Tigertown, you got a rec for a good Tex-Mex spot out here? Good authentic stuff is abundant out here, but sometimes the Wife just wants a hard shell taco with good seasoned ground beef.

apparently its good but dont drink too much soda so you dont go pee pee and try not to look at the ceiling while youre at it

You get chips and salsa as soon as you sit down. Chips seemed fresh. Salsa was on the thin side, but it tasted good to me and it had good heat.
I ordered fajitas. I didn't receive the fajitas I ordered, but trying to get it corrected wasn't worth the dollar I got screwed on, so I didn't say anything.
Everything looked and tasted fresh. I enjoyed it.
If I worked in the area, I'd go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

If you mean metro area, I La Parilla or Chuy's.
If you mean Lawrenceville, there is a place on the square called La Cazuela. I've heard people like it, but I have not been.
I assume you know about Los Hermanos? It's not Tex-Mex, but it's good.
And Frontera is decent. It was good, then it went downhill, but last time I was there, it had really improved.

Went to Los Hermanos on Sugarloaf (we live right around there) ... she hated it. Didn't like the potatoes in the taco meat.
Gotta be honest, I didn't like it either. The potatoes made the taco meat taste like hash.
I had fish tacos that were ok, but the ones right next door at 3 dollar cafe are way better.
I'll try La Cazuela and let you know.

I know exactly where it is. I actually patronize every business in that strip except for Frontera.

Yeah, the big issue with atmosphere is that most local owners cannot afford to dump the money needed into a place to make it a desirable atmosphere. When the place is in a less than desirable location AND people can't afford to make it inviting, it never becomes a "destination" and people aren't going to purposely drive there to visit.
Lang: Is this a taqueria type spot? Or regular TexMex (chimis, enchiladas, nachos, etc.)? I don't look for atmosphere in authentic taqueria places, but for Friday night quesadillas and margaritas.. I want a good atmosphere.
