I needed a place for a brunch with a visiting relative, they were staying uptown N.O., I Googled and came up with Gris Gris as a close by spot. Likely I was swayed by the name being the same as our illustrious poster, a FDB favorite.

The service and the food was OK, but I have never seen such small portions, my guest had shrimp and grits, they were serves about 1/4 cup of grits and 4 shrimp with a sauce. A serving of grits is pretty damn cheap, I didn't understand why they were so sparce.

I had a fried oyster salad, 5 oysters, and a small amount of lettuce with a dressing. I felt so bad about my friends portion I gave him 2 of my oysters.

Maybe this is the norm now, I stay out of N.O. as much as possible.

What does Nola have to do with portion sizes. That’s kind of the norm at many places everywhere.

Even LSU fan favorite Raising Canes is up on prices and down on portion sizes :)

I preferred Root which was formerly in that same space. Gris Gris is just ok for New Orleans

At one point Square Root was labeled as one of the most expensive restaurants in the region.

You should have tried Cafe Degas.

Should have hit the golden corral on the way out for low prices and large portions.

Yea fixed menu was downstairs at square root.

Upstairs was just root. More affordable. I was an upstairs feller haha.

I wasn't looking for low prices or large portions, just more than an amuse-bouche.

fair enough. I did go look for recent pics of the two dishes you mentioned.

$18

$28

Seems about right for one of the Magazine Instagram restaurants.

That's why I gave my guest a few of my oysters, but I think the shrimp and grits were $22. I just made a poor choice of restaurants.

Should have gone to Joey K's.
