Their sizes are a little fubar probably due to how thin and unfilling the pizza is. Their Small is 16", Large is 18", and the "Personal" is 12". Someone should weigh 16" pizzas from a variety of places and compare. I thought I would be freezing part of the "small" Grimaldi's, but it was trivial for two people to eat it over a couple of days.

My logic isn't broken at all. I don't care who their competition is in your mind. When in Baton Rouge, I'll continue getting Mama Della's, or more frequently, make pizza at home.

If I wanted to pay too much for mediocre pizza, I would go to Fleur de Lis.

I don't see this place lasting too long if they don't adjust their prices to the BR market.
They will last for several years, but they will do it by just barely getting by. I just don't see that mall crowd as being a good match for them, but the sheer number of people that frequent that mall will keep them alive.

As people have mentioned, what you get for the price ain't so great. I ate a small Caesar salad and half a large pizza and still felt hungry. I can't ever recall leaving a pizza place still feeling hungry.I personally like the pizza and the place, but I honestly don't see myself going back anytime soon, if ever. I just don't see the value.

The Red Robin's across the street will likely do 3 to 4 times Grimaldi's daily volume of customers. Red Robin's is a great match for that mall crowd.

I have a friend who lived in NYC (well a suburb at least), and he swears by the stuff.

Lots of valid comments here. I ate there a couple days after they opened and it was mediocre at best. If not for the pricing, I would have given them a second shot. As noted by others, their a la carte toppings price structure is screwy and bore negatively on what we wanted to order. That was highly unpopular with the group. Especially paying full price for a half pizza of toppings.

Not as big a deal but our tablecloth was filthy as well. Not, oh there is a stain(!), filthy but actual huge spots of unknown gunk on it filthy. I can only assume they had a table of kids at it previously. Not sure why it wasn't changed. I am not particularly choosy in this area but it was bad enough that I moved to a different seat to keep stains off of my arms from the spot where I was seated. (My mom taught me it was OK to rest my arms on the table before and after the meal but not during FWIW.)

Keep in mind that the style of pizza Grimaldi's serves isn't supposed to have a bunch of toppings on it. That type of pizza just needs one or two, since the thin chewy crust is the star of the show.

I haven't tried BR Grimaldi's yet, but the one in Brooklyn has some of the best pizza I've ever had.

I'll still support Barry at Mama Della's though. His pizza is as close to NYC as it gets down here. Just wish he had a coal (or even brick) oven.

BR market

What's interesting is that I find food in BR to be very expensive.

I know that the owner didn't agree w/ some of Irvine's recommendations, and rightfully so. The product was already top-notch; there really was no need for intervention. The main problem was the owner's attitude, which personally I've never had a problem with. The guy knows what he's doing and is an expert at his craft. Would you go into a top sushi bar and argue with the chef about how to make sushi? Of course not. Same premise here. Just let him do his thing and you're guaranteed to have a good meal. I also think his prices are great, too. What irks me are the people who have complained and whined to the point that the owner felt the need to get a makeover done, when no makeover was needed to begin with. It's people who want to argue with him about his product and insist that they know more than he does that he has problems with.

I don't think it matters how much of an expert you are. If the customers want something different you better listen or go out of business. The customer is the boss in the food industry.

I'm in IT and that's something I learned the hard way by losing an important client and it applies to all industries. I learned that if you don't listen to your customers someone else will....and they'll be happy to do it.

I agree with this. We ate there once. It was ok. But we won't be going back simply because the amount we paid was simply too high for the quality of food we got.

I had a houseful of girls last night and they asked me to pick up Roma's. Two large, and they are large for $25.00.

And they are worth every penny. The new owner has kept the pie the same and is a very nice guy. Tommy's Fish House was packed and using his parking lot but he still had a few large tables. I hope people keep going because he deserves to succeed.

Thank you. I hate how these a-hole food snobs stand up for a-hole restaurant owners that don't know how business is done.
