I don't see this place lasting too long if they don't adjust their prices to the BR market. $4 for a single typing of bacon on a small personal pizza.... The menu is all "create your own" pizzas and calzones. The base personal pizza is $9 and calzone is $10. Most toppings are from $2-$4. Let's just say you want a bacon, pepperoni, black olive and mushrooms calzone you are looking at $20 for a freaking 4 topping personal calzone.

I'm not saying Rotolos is the best quality but I can get a fully loaded calzone 1/2 mile up Perkins rd for $8.

Oh, and no kids menu either. If you want a single slice of cheese pizza for your kid you'll be spending $9 more for an entire personal pizza.

I'll tell you in about 30 minutes. The weird thing about the toppings is that the cost is the same for half pizza and whole pizza. So if you were to split a pie with someone but get different toppings on each half of the pie you still pay the full amount for each topping.

It's about what you would expect a NY thin crust pizza to be. They use a coal fired oven. It's just a thin crisp pizza that's a little charred around the edges. Not much flavor depth.

It's better than delivery but I've had better and worse from BJ's, Rotolo's, Fleur de lis and NYC Pizzeria.

Grimaldis is awesome pizza. A small can easily feed two people as well. It's my favorite pizza here in Dallas. I love Rotolos but the pizza at grimaldis is way better

Should just go to Mama Della's, I see they never have anyone in there so I am sure you can get your pizza pie pronto. I heard Irvine fixed that place up! HAHAHAHA

For good NY style pie in BR area check out Roma in Praireville. Some of the best pizza I've ever had.

From the other Grimaldi's thread...

Went to today. Was going to try Red Robin, but they had a line, so we walked across the road to Grimaldi's. The place was nearly full, but we didn't have to wait.

For Starters, we ordered a small Caesar salad ($7), which was served family style and meant to be shared. (The Caesar salad was invented in Mexico, but the guy that invented it, Caesar Cardini, was Italian, so suck it you little shite "we don't serve Caesar salad but we have redneck Ranch dressing" Italian purest restaurants.) The salad was fine. The salad bowl was room temp and the romaine lettuce was approaching being wilted (wasn't crisp), the croutons were made with diced bread from pizza oven. The salad tasted good, but needed improvement in freshness.

Ordered a large pizza ($16) and added pepperoni ($2) and spicy chicken sausage ($4).

I must say that I enjoyed it. One of the better pizzas I had in a while. The crust was a very good quality crust. The cheese, sauce and toppings were good quality too. It tasted good. It tasted fresh. But to knock it a little, I will say that it had too many (three) large puffed up crust bubbles. One is fun. Two is cool. Three is "lets talk about the bubbles"

We ordered 2 cheesecakes ($5 each) for dessert. Butterscotch (tasted like a Butterfinger candy bar) It was good. Oreo. Didn't taste it, but was told it was good. Our waiter was stoked about the Amaretto cheesecake and seemed a little sad when we didn't order it. In hindsight, I wish I did.

Our waiter was competent and genuinely sought to do a good job. I would say his language was a little relaxed when talking to us, considering the prices, but all in all I would be happy to have him serve us again.

The decor was brick walls, the ceiling was a patch work of old and random styles of tin roof. The lighting was at an appropriate level. Had hundreds of green and white wine bottles hanging from the ceiling, with light bulbs in them. Red and white checkered tablecloths (cloth not plastic) on all the tables. I seem to remember walnut wood trim on the door frames and stuff. What can I say, the place looks good and has a clean look.

The price ain't cheap, but it shouldn't be surprising that it's not. Nothing about the restaurant says cheap pizza. The decor and wine glasses on the tables should give you a clue. You got to keep the undesirables out somehow. This ain't Showbiz pizza.

i live right next to it, every time i pass the old man is sitting down staring at all the cars that are now next door at pat's. i dont see him being able to handle it for that much longer. just looking at him through the window makes me shed a tear for him. maybe if he would allow substitutions on his signature pies he would make more friends. haha

I was unimpressed. Had a large cheese pizza w/ extra sauce and it was over 20 bucks, and I ate the whole thing myself because it's so thin and not very filling. I'd much rather Mama Dellas.

About 5-7 years ago there was a Roma pizzeria in Mandeville that did the NY style 18 and 20 inch pies. It closed, but I wonder if the one in Prarieville is run by the same folks.

So for the same price or less, I could have Mama Della's, Ancora, Domenica, etc? I'll pass.

Your logic is as broke as Mama Della's. Ancora and Domenica are in New Orleans. If you put any real thought into it, you would have mentioned California Pizza Kitchen down the street at Perkins Rowe. That's there closest competition.

I almost forgot about DeAngelo's. There was a time when DeAngelo's would have been the competition, but not anymore. Sad really.

I know that the owner didn't agree w/ some of Irvine's recommendations, and rightfully so. The product was already top-notch; there really was no need for intervention. The main problem was the owner's attitude, which personally I've never had a problem with. The guy knows what he's doing and is an expert at his craft. Would you go into a top sushi bar and argue with the chef about how to make sushi? Of course not. Same premise here. Just let him do his thing and you're guaranteed to have a good meal. I also think his prices are great, too. What irks me are the people who have complained and whined to the point that the owner felt the need to get a makeover done, when no makeover was needed to begin with. It's people who want to argue with him about his product and insist that they know more than he does that he has problems with.

Well it seems that some people don't agree with you.
