Smoke On The Water - Downtown Greenville
Never had a bad meal there, lunch or dinner. Great for either lunch or dinner.
Sticky Fingers - also Downtown
Although it is a regional chain, they have the best wings that I've eaten that haven't came from my grill.

Although it's the opposite directon from Greenville to Lake Hartwell, The Beacon in Spartanburg (approx 30 min drive from Gvl) is a DDD alum. It can be a bit greasy, but grease is good every now and then. Whatever you order, whether it be a burger or fried chicken, order your plate A-plenty, which is with fries and onion rings. I eat there for lunch every time that I'm in close proximity.

Tupelo Honey or Mary Beth's for Breakfast
The Bohemian has a good burger for lunch

The Velo Fellow or Trappe Door are also cool spots for lunch. Smoke on the Water has a nice outdoor spot for if it is a nice day.

Can't go wrong with The Green Room, Soby's, American Grocery, Larkins, or The Lazy Goat for dinner. Larkins, Soby's, and American Grocery are all pushing the $25/entree though. Lazy Goat is tapas.
Community Tap is a good beer spot.

This is all in Downtown Greenville.

Our BBQ tends to be better in the lower part of the state with Sweatmans, Jackie Hites, and Scotts.
Henry's Smokehouse is pretty solid and it is in Greenville.

Yeah, I did some market research two years ago for a guy wanting to open a restaurant downtown in Greenville. Imagine downtown Baton Rouge if all the hype we've heard from the last 30 years were true, that's downtown Greenville, SC. A real nice happening area.

Soby's is smack dab in the middle of downtown on Main St. It's definitely one of the more popular restaurants. Take a closer look at the restaurants on the "West End", which is South Main St. just on the other side of the Reedy River.

Isn't Greenville and Lake Hartwell SC 30 miles or so apart? Are you going to be at Lake Hartwell for the fishing tournament but staying in Greenville?

Just semi familiar with the area so I may be way off base.

Classic headquarters for media & Expo is in Greenville.......we just decided that staying on the lake & being closer to launch where we will be broadcasting from would be more fun & convenient.

Two of us are foodies so driving isn't really an issue.......

As Jerome said, the best barbeque is in the lower part of the state. If I'm eating barbeque at home in the upstate, it's coming off of my smoker. They just do it better in the lowcountry and in NC..personal opinion.

Another place that I think you may find interesting that shouldn't be too far out of your driving range from Greenville and certainly not from Anderson/Lake Hartwell is Grits and Groceries. It is in the middle of nowhere, south of Anderson at the intersecton of Hwys 185 and 284..keep driving, you'll get there. The owners are both from New Orleans and lots of their heritage and influence comes through in their cooking. It's great food and people drive quite a ways to eat there. Some of you guys may even be familiar with them and the restaurants they've worked at in NO. You will just need to look at the hours on their website to figure out what meal you should go for because the hours do vary depending on the day. Again, it's great food, and should take you no more than an hour from Greenville, much less from Anderson/Lake Hartwell. Definitely a DDD type place.

Also, I don't know how well you know Casey Ashley, but I'm sure he will be one of the Bassmaster participants. He's a "local" and a good kid. He lives about 3 miles from our place of business. I'm sure he could give you some good recommendations as well.

No. Just no. Do not go to the beacon. Completely overrated. It's all grease.

Greenville is a 45 minute drive from Lake Hartwell. If OP doesn't mind that drive, I can recommend plenty of places.

If you're there on Saturday, go to Sadlers Creek BBQ for lunch. It's right near the lake.

You're not looking at much in close proximity. Mostly chains. Clemson/Pickens aren't known for food.

Jim driving is not an issue as we will have to go into Greenville daily for media events, weigh ins daily & the Expo. Be great to have your input as well. TIA

If SoBe is still around, I had a lot of good meals there but it has been 10 years or more.

Thanks for all the recommendations.....we hit some of them Bacon Bros had amazing charcuterie though the BBQ was terribly overpriced at $25 per person & damn near inedible....the Pork Belly cabbage wraps were ridiculously good as were the crispy brussels sprouts
LINK

The best place we found was in Seneca however:

Paesano's Italian Reminded me a great deal of Gino's & was similar in that it is family owned just didn't have "Mama" in the kitchen.

Highly recommmend LINK
