Sale starts today until Next Tuesday.

Up to $370 off

Anyone have one of these?? I prefer the design of this one as opposed to the Traeger. Seems more robust and built with thicker gauge metal.

I'm about to pull the trigger on one but cant decide to get the Wifi model or not. The app looks pretty slick and will alarm you if any of the temps get outta whack.

Anyone have any experience with the wifi function or anything similar??

TIA & Happy Thanksgiving.

the site says 'grill' everywhere i look and outside of the ribs, i can't find a single recipe or video showing them doing a butt or a whole brisket.

all the recipes are for ribeyes & chicken.

It's called a pellet grill but the only fuel used is wood pellets, so I consider it a smoker. I have the Daniel Boone with WiFi and really enjoy it. I've done plenty of Briskets and Butts, and they come out fantastic. The WiFi is nice but if you're trying to save some money it won't hurt to not have it.

they're out there on youtube and I agree that their website leaves a little to be desired.

I would classify this as more of a smoker/oven, in my opinion.

A "grill" to me, is for quick searing on high heat and typically gas fueled.

but I don't give a shite what they call it really. these pellet smokers take the hassle out of smoking shite for extended periods of time. the two most important factors are steady temp control and adding fuel. this automates the process and allows the user to do other things while cooking.

I know traditional BBQ enthusiasts shite all over them though.

That's an issue with the website then. My buddy has a traeger and we smoke stuff on it all the time. Brisket, pork butt, wings, etc

Because the hard way is the right way. People like that are annoying. These things put out meat that is just as perfect with half the work.

Hi Guys,

I'm starting to consider an upgrade to my smoker for this spring. Right now I've got a masterbuilt gas smoker which has been great, but my gripes about it are having to watch the temperature pretty consistently and adjusting as need be, and adding more chips. I'd love something that is able to maintain a constant temp automatically and if it's able to feed chips itself, even better. If I'm upgrading, I don't want some flimsy piece of crap, so thinking that my best options are:

Green Mountain

Rec Tec

Traeger

There's also a Camp Chef model that seems like it might be a fit.

I don't think I'd really need wifi enabled. I've read that it doesn't always work that well and seems a bit unnecessary.

Traeger seems to be most common, but there are some small issues. Green Mountain seems to be a bit more "substantial" of a build, and Rec Tec I don't know much about. Would probably be willing to spend up to $700.

Thoughts?

ETA: The Rec Tec offset looks like overkill for my needs...

Forget the name of the model I have but it's the biggest they make. Stainless lid and wifi. Thing is sick man.

Some of the 'que thats came off of it...

If there's a drawback to it is that it doesn't impart quit enough smoke to the meat that I'd like. But that's all pellet smokers from what I've read. I bought one of those stainless smoker tubes and use it every time. Perfect.

eta: just looked it up...mine is the Jim Bowie. And the app works great but that's only if you want to be extra lazy and do everything from inside...lol.

Thanks for the reply. I like the looks of the Green Mountain smokers. Need to do take some measurements out on the balcony and see if the Boone model will fit out there.

No problem. The only thing I'd do different is skip the wifi model. And that's just because I like being outside with the smoker. It's cool as hell to impress your friends with though. Lol.

And you can build profiles in the app for different cuts of meat. Say you want to do a brisket. Put it on and put the meat probe in. You can build the profile to say "smoke at 225 until meat reaches 165*. Then jump the heat up to 275* (to power through the stall). Then when the meat hits 190* jump the temp to 350* until the meat hits 203*. And when it hits 203*, drop the temp to 125*(just to keep it warm).

You build that in and the next time just go to profiles and click on brisket then hit start. It will do it all just like that and you won't have to touch a thing.

Damn...that's crazy. It almost does take a little bit too much of the actual work of smoking out of it. And a 17% bump in price just for that functionality seems like a bit much. Though if it does do that I can start to see the value.

No threads with "yoder" in the subject line. Also, it appears that those don't have the automatic temperature control and are wood fired...two things that remove it from contention for me. I live in the middle of Chicago, so space is also an issue.

I assume you are being serious, they make what are IMHO the best pellet grills on the market. LINK

I bought a yoder Ys640 in November after exhaustive research. It's built like a tank. Great functionality and smoking results even from a novice like me. I went with yoder because of the superior Build quality. Don't want to have to buy a new one every few years.

That Yoder does look really badass and well built. I honestly didn't research that manufacturer when buying my GMG. But for that kind of money I'm getting a Memphis Wood Fire Grill.

LINK

I'm digging the GMG Daniel Boone that i got back in November. Wifi wasn't worth the extra $$$ for me. But could see how it would be a cool function.

My only knock on the Traeger is that cylinder shape. You only have about 10" of clearance from the "roof" of the grill.

Looks like they corrected that w/ the Timberline models but, again, for that kinda $$, i will get by just fine over the next few years with the GMG and save up for that Memphis WFG.

Same people get pissed if you use a BBQ Guru and dont cook on a offset. I BBQ to be outside, drink beer, and eat some fine food. I dont have time to frick with throwing wood on a fire and having to baby sit it. I almost bought a pellet cooker but went with a Backwoods instead due to the insulation factor.

I think everbody agrees that the MAK pellet boss controller is the best on the market. I have ran a ton and a half of pellets through my MAK 2 Star General with zero problems.
