I would probably put it in that group as well. I wouldn't be shocked to see a child birthday party at any of them. Parents always want to impress for a birthday party and this line of dining seems par for the course.

Ruffino's is in the same group as Mansurs, Gino's, Sullivan's, etc, but for food only.

These other restaurants are more romantic dining, Ruffino's has more of a loud atmosphere and sports (with decor and tv's everywhere). I went there twice last year to watch an LSU game while eating. You will not do this at most other fine ding around BR.

I think the 70" TV right over your shoulder at some of the tables make this place a joke when it comes to considering it fine dining.

Posted by LouisianaLady I though the Ruffino's bus was for people to get drunk at ruffinos.. I have a friend that uses it every time her group goes. They get smashed before, during, after.

We didn't reserve the limo for the entire night. Last time we did this, he picked us up and brought us to the restaurant. As soon as he dropped us off, he left to go get another party. When he dropped them off, he left again. By the time he got back with the third party, we loaded up to go home. I only live 5 mins from Ruffino's.

Well, that and the fact that the owner watches games and yells profanities while watching.

I like Ruffino's, but it is not fine dining. It's a place that people like to go get a good meal and cut up/show off.

TVs take it out of the fine dining realm and make a birthday party with kids a wonderful idea.

Plus, it is summer in South Louisiana, any restaurant would love what is probably a $300 -500 check between you and your wife and the kids. I am sure the bus driver appreciates it as well.

Looks kosher to me, F&DB

I've taken groups of kids out to dinner in what I consider nice restaurants many times. They love it and I don't see the big deal unless they aren't well behaved. I think the limo ride and pizza bar sounds terrific. What a treat for the girls.

Let's do a re-cap of the party:

Picked up at 6pm - check

Seated - check

Great dinner and drinks - check

Waiter and pizza bartender treat my daughter and her friends extra special - check

Seeing Mr DeAngelo (im guessing the restaurant guy) come in with his 5 kids and comment on how he has had a couple birthday parties here for his kids as well - check

Gris Gris speaking the truth in this thread. The bolded segment is the only part that matters to me. Let's be fair -- no restaurant is going to turn away business unless that business is antithetical to the image the restaurant is trying to present. A dozen (a random number I picked out) young girls age 7 to 12 dressed tastefully and dining respectfully while the parents spare no expense?

They'd have to be stupid to turn that away.

The people acting like its the most appalling thing in the world to have a 7yr olds b-day at the pizza bar in Ruffino's are the same people that probably only go to a place like that once every few years. Naturally you put it on a pedestal. I can't believe this thread is 4 pages.

The clientele in there isn't all that fancy.

It's not just BR, but all of America, thus somewhat redundant, the whole underdressed for fine dining debate.

But yes, the parking lot at lunch is 70%+ pickup truck Bubbas from industrial sales in the local area, just as with Le Creole, and Lil Village around the corner, and many of the women are soccermom Bubbettes, even if residing in CCLA, Santa Maria, etc..

Way more button down with slacks & collar over jeans, than coat and tie crowd.

As long as Ruff still stocks Dinardo's era Viking Cut Prime Ribs and horsey sauce..I'm in.

If he adds a Pop-A-Shot and Skeeball..I'll become a regular!

Ruff himself.

Looked like he was gonna die the last time I saw and talked to him(walking up to the top of Sanford Stadium stairs)..

Then, he impressed the hell out of me with BR's Dancing With The Stars, still got some nimble game left in those legs..that or a cortisone shot?
