A (very good) friend is offering to give me in exchange his custom-built offset smoker, very large, much more than he needs. I think he paid about $2.5 k, maybe $3K? I know the builder now charges $3K. He will still have his BGE. I've used the smoker once cooking some butts for a class reunion. It took me a little while to learn the adjustments, but the finished product was great, much more flavorful than my Traeger. The exchange is for a gas grill/griddle combo. I would like to get him something of very high quality and though i have read a number of threads here on gas grillls, I haven't noticed any inluding the combos, and it has been many years since I have been in the grill market and options seem bewildering. I guess u can just have a grill with a detachable griddle but don't know if built-in griddle is preferable or is it just a matter of deciding how many burners u sacrifice to the griddle. Would appreciate reccs. thanks

I have a Weber Genesis grill @ home, and I have considered getting a griddle insert for it. I do not think I want, or would use enough to justify having a standalone griddle(Blackstone as an example). Just my humble opinion…

I’ve seen some pellet grill/ griddle combos before. You sure he wouldn’t rather have that than a gas grill? I’ve had both and I’d go pellet grill all day.

He might, we didn't discuss but I got rid of my traeger in favor of better flavor (can't beat the convenience however) and I don't think a pellet grill in my experience is optimum for high temp grilling

I bought a combo from BassPro. Pretty inexpensive.. I had a free gift card I had to use. I think it was $250. I figured I would see if I like it before buying higher end one if they exist.

Blackstone has the combo, Tailgater. That might work.

Gorilla makes a gas grill/griddle combo. No experience with it though.

I have one. Honestly hard to keep the temps down on the griddle. Even on low setting it will be too hot to cook an egg or stuff like that. Good for searing meat though. Probably will try to sell it and go back to standard gas grill. Kind of a pain to change between the grate and griddle set up as the griddle is pretty heavy and not convenient to store anywhere.

Does it have to be a combo? Maybe a webber slate and a gas grill of your choice? I dont look at gas grills but im in the market for a griddle and it will likely be the Webber slate for its rust proof top although I may look into a stainless one. I haven't cooked on stainless yet...
