I went about ten years ago. It was really good. Definitely the best Mexican food I’ve ever had

I ate there 8 or so years ago. Very good. I love mexican, but personally I've always felt like the ceiling for mexican was very low. Its not exactly french or Japanese to me in that its hard to get the depth of flavors. Worth going to though.

Had a very nice lunch there. Couldn’t get into Girl and Goat but made it into her ode to Chinese-American food Duck Duck Goat and that was excellent. Would also add Publican to your list, Pequods for pizza, Boeufhaus for a less traditional steakhouse, and Three Dots and a Dash. Plenty more on my list as well.

Excellent. Had the best Mexican meal I’ve had there. Mole was out of sight, Guac was great.
Bar program is nothing special.

Just ate at the one at Universal, Chicago was ten fold better

Eaten there a few times and thought it was pretty good. I mean, to be honest with you, given the prices and shite it didn't feel very authentic. I know Bayless spent an inordinate amount of time in Mexico and knows Mexican food inside and out, but apparently he missed the part where Mexico is actually a poor country who thrive on delicious, economical meals.

I'd save a few bucks and go to his XOCO restaurant instead (right next door) for a nice lunch. I enjoyed my food at XOCO more than I ever did at Frontera.

Other places to check out: Dove's Luncheonette, Boka, Pequod's (mentioned earlier), Portillo's or other for an Italian beef and/or Chicago Dog, Gibson's for surf and turf, or, just get adventurous, and head down to Chinatown or any of the other ethnic parts of the city (recommend Greek Town).

Went with a decent sized party, about 8 people, and hated it. Food was terrible and incredibly expensive. This was October 2017. I get the feeling it is one of those places that was great years ago and just lives off its reputation. Here is my advice: skip it and go to Momotaro for sushi. Also check out Duck Duck Goat.

I have only been to Frontera once and while I thought it was real good, I don’t think I would ever go back if I was paying or recommend it to others. I just think you could do much more unique options

If you’re wanting to try because of reputation / Rick Bayless, you may as well go. Otherwise, it’s good, but overpriced, and you can find better Mexican (i.e. 5 Rabanitos) throughout the city at a better price.

Pretty much any taqueria in the city or burbs is going to be good...that was one of the mian things I noticed when moving out here years ago. The Mexican is legit

Its great. Bayless was in the kitchen working his arse off last time I was there. Frontera and Topolobampo share the same kitchen.

Whether or not these customers are from Chicago, I'd choose West Loop over River North when entertaining. It's an aesthetically-pleasing neighborhood (i.e. converted warehouses) with a number of great restaurants, including Girl and the Goat, and cocktail bars. If you want to stick with Rick Bayless, Lena Brava is a good option. In general, West Loop is less-hectic than the hustle-and-bustle of River North.

Just my .02, but sounds like you're pretty set on Frontera.
