French Press

So I recently came into a good bit of wealth, and decided it was time to reevaluate my coffee situation. This board has taught me that the only folks who drink regular coffee are poors and fats who use half a bottle of coffeemate. I bought a french press off amazon and have tried it a few times.
What is this sludge that is at the bottom of my cup? Is it like the yeast that is meant to be left behind in fine lambics? I never had to deal with this when I used a regular coffee maker or (gasp) keurig like the commoners and homeless.
Is my bean to water ratio off? What ratio do ya'll use, and what are your bean recommendations? I tried the starbucks french roast that someone recommended in a similar thread, and found it a tad too much.
Thanks

its just the fine bits of the ground coffee that get thru. Grind them rough to prevent this.

This......pour slowly and leave 1/4-1/2" of liquid in the bottom of the FP.....just like you would pour a homebrew. I have an 8 cup FP and use 6 tbl of fresh ground coffee.

You need coarse grind
You should buy your own beans and a burr grinder, or just ignore the sediment like I do
I just don't sip the last sip of coffee and don't have to worry about it

I just drink the sediment.

Yeah, it's not gonna hurt
It's like refusing to drink the chocolate at the bottom of a homemade glass of chocolate milk.

A little swirl at the bottom of the glass ensure I get it all.........

Yeah, but mine's kind of thick and nasty looking. Reminded me of the first couple of meconium shits from a baby.

Please go the OT with this sort of thing.

You definitely need to grind your own on a course grind. Fresh beans and fresh ground are just as important to a good cup as the french press method.
Since you are super flush with riches, I'd check out Baratza for good, solid grinders. The higher levels tend to be geared towards espresso. For a consistent coarse grind, the cheaper models will work.

I have this one. Maybe I just let it go for too long.

This looks like a spice grinder. You need a burr grinder. Does it have two blades that spin in a circle? If so, spice grinder and the source of your sludge.

Stop being a pussy and just get one of these. It's only $20,000.
or you could just get a more coarse grind on your coffee beans.

Use some of your recent wealth and buy a grinder. If you're using pre-ground coffee, that's your problem.
