In any event, trust me, blind tastings are fun-filled, humorous events. Sorry if it came off wrong, but I find the topic endlessly fascinating.

Dumb? I would think one would always be pursuing truth. I have personally humbled myself with taste tests many times.

Do you think you could tell the difference between different grades of beef, all other things equal?
Posted on 10/22/11 at 11:43 am to Powerman
I think most wine drinkers can taste the difference between a 6 dollar shite wine and a 15 dollar decent one.
Im talking about Wine drinkers.
But, the difference between a 12 and a 18 dollar bottle? Not much.

What about a good tasting 8 buck bottle and a horrible tasting 50? Could they tell the difference?

Seem that is really the point of all this. That there is not really a correlation between price and quality, making it pretty much impossible to tell the difference between price of wine in a blind taste test

I agree, but the best $20 bottle isn't better than the best $100 bottle. Of course this is all so subjective to personal taste that some people will like the cheap one-dimensional stuff over the more expensive wine w/ complex flavors (thought i'd drop some snobby wine lingo). Just like some people will hate a complex beer that challenges their tastebuds but will drink the hell out of some bud light.

This thread is funny.
I can't really say that I can tell differences in different-priced wines, but this thread reminds me of the time SFP was saying that TYPES of wines aren't really true.
He was saying there's no difference between a Malbec vs. Shiraz vs. Pinot vs. Cab

In general i agree with it. When going to the extremes I think there is a noticeable difference. The best wines I've ever had were from France and Italy, but I've had great wines from Argentina( which are less exp bc of land costs and I'd also assume lack of history, regulation and QC), that challenged many expensive wines from Europe.
