Food Recs in NYC

Looking for recommendations for places to eat in NYC during a 4 day winter trip.
Not sure where we are staying specifically but it will likely be Hell's Kitchen, midtown area. Going with another couple and will have 2 kids with us for all meals. Not looking for anything really fancy or really far. Hoping to get some institutions though(cafe du monde)
Lunch option in lower Manhattan, something easy.
Other breakfast/cafe, lunch and dinner options.
So far I have:
Bouchon
Carnegie Deli
Carmine's
Lombardi

for desserts, you can't go wrong with Milk Bar, Levain Bakery (chocolate chip cookie is insanely good), or Lady M for green tea crepe cakes.

Lombardi's Pizza in SoHo. Oldest pizza joint in the country, pretty cool place.
There is an upscale breakfast in the Nomad Hotel. Very nice and beautiful setting in the Hotel Atrium.
Jr's is great for cheesecake, kind of touristy but still good. Good breakfast there as well.

Eataly is on 23rd and 5th Ave. It's Mario Batali and Lidya Bastianich's mega Italian venture. Ice desserts, gelato, cakes and cookies and ample tapas and wine, chacuterie, pasta, fish, pizza. No one will leave hungry.

Thank you for the reccomendations. Carmine's looks good and so does eataly. At eataly, is it set up like a food court where people can get food at different places but still eat together?

It's a big food court. Some areas have seating and some are take away.. You can sit at a table together.

kind of under selling it, it's a massive place and is pretty overwhelming to decide what to get. If you're looking for Italian and not somewhere fancy though they've got some great stuff to offer.

if you go to carmine's, i recommend their scarpariello chicken wings...some seriously great wings.

You get the widest variety of authentic Italian food at the most reasonable prices. Definitely wasn't my intention to undersell or oversimplify.. It's a very sophisticated, "New York" kind of place.

Go to Carnegie to say you've been there, as it is closing for good at the end of this year...it's not bad but not nearly as good as it used to be...that being said, it's a neat experience. Have fun!

Yes.. Definitely Carnegie Deli - 7th Avenue between 54th and 55th. The pickle spears are the best.
Carnegie Deli owner would rather close than sell. And that's BULL!
