Food delivery question

Let me preface by saying I am not cheap when it comes to gratuity. We placed an online order for some sandwiches and wings from a local place to be delivered. The total was $21.30 which included a $4.30 "delivery fee" on the itemized checkout page. If you do the quick math its a 20%. When the order arrived I collected the bag and said thank you. The delivery guy looked at me and waited for what I assumed was his tip. I said I paid with a credit card online and the tip was already in the total. He said: "no that is the delivery charge the deli puts in" and that he works for tips. i apologized and told him unfortunately i didn't have any cash and that even if i did a 20% gratuity had already been applied and he should take it up with the deli for collecting HIS tip. What's your opinion? Did I stiff the guy? I'm of the opinion his employer did if its his vehicle and his time the delivery fee should go to the driver correct?

What's the fee for then?
He can find another job that doesn't include a 20% gratuity, on top of what you'd tip him.

Guy in the office says if you order on the Apps or online they include a delivery fee as well. Actually he mentioned Pizza Hut by name not Dominoes.

At the place I worked at in undergrad, the deliver fee was $2.25 flat fee and the driver got $1.50 per delivery plus whatever tip was on top of that. A 20% delivery fee seems nuts IMO, tough situation to expect a person to tip a driver after that.

I haven't ordered pizza from those places in a long time. Didn't know they had a charge for delivery.
I'd let them know up front, that's gonna be the tip. Then I'd just weed out the pubes.

Were you telling him the truth? If so, that's really odd. The only time my wallet has ever been empty is when I put the remaining money to reload my Starbucks card on the way to the ATM machine. And that's only a 5 minute interval.

Younger people dont carry cash as much it seems. My gf thinks its weird that I always want to have cash on me.
I was brought up told to always have cash on me so when I get robbed, I dont get killed for having nothing on me

Yeah its the truth. Hadn't hit the ATM yet. I would think it might not be as odd as you think. With the ease of cash/debit/credit cards about the only time i use cash is for tipping valets or flipping the kid a few bucks and I don't think I'm on an island with that.

I rarely carry cash unless I am going to an event such as a football game, festival, or vacation.

It probably is in most cases but I just cant fathom how people never seem to have cash on them.
Im not talking hundreds of dollars but around $40 or so. If I run into the gas station to grab a drink, I'm not putting $1 on my card. It makes tipping a lot safer and easier also.

Yeah, I've heard about the generational thing. But I can tell you from every day experience that cash is MUCH faster in a grocery store than cards.
My money is in my wallet in descending order of denomination. As the groceries are being tallied I'm taking out money. From the time the clerk says 'That will be 24.50, Mr. Zach' till the time the money is in her hand is about 1/4th of 1 second.
You can't use a credit card that fast.

Said convenient not efficient. And if you figure in the time waiting for the mental giant behind the register to count back the change if you don't give them exact amount we are probably in the same time frame. Not a big deal either way. You dig cash and I like plastic.

$4.30 is a high delivery fee for not going to the driver.
I don't do delivery often, just because with fees and tip it adds like $8 to a $20 Order. Just not worth it to me, when I can get there and back in five minutes.

The only time I ever have cash is when I am specifically going somewhere that doesn't take cards. Credit is just much easier.
I may keep a $5 in my truck in case I need it, and two singles on me to buy a drink or two during the day.

I would disagree, but the new chip cards slow things down a lot. I use NFC payments when I can and nothing is faster than that, if the place takes it.
I think I may be one of the only repair companies that takes NFC payments and Apple and Android pay.
I do not get how in 2016 a company won't take credit cards. Yeah it cost you 2.75% so what? Raise prices by 3% and no one will notice.

You're a fricking douche bag. I worked deliveries like this. How fricking dumb do you have to be be not not realize the delivery fee isn't the tip. It was say "tip". Don't order food if you can't afford to tip the guy.

The cashier at the grocery is very fast in handing back change. Maybe takes her 5 seconds. She does it all day so it doesn't take a college degree to get good at repetition.
Cards are EXTREMELY SLOW due people who don't have any money.
Cashier: "That doesn't work. Swipe it again."
Customer: "I don't know what's wrong with this."
Cashier: "I'm sorry, it doesn't work."
Customer then walks out without groceries. Stock boy is called to re shelve all of the purchases.
This never happens with cash. You can't say "Whoa, I know I have cash in my wallet but I just don't see it."

Well I guess from your over-reaction I must be pretty dumb to think they added an extra 20% and it wasn't a tip. Please enlighten me as to what it would be if not gratuity.
