we need a good whiskey / cigar bar in the SBC.

Yeah I guess Vintage (wine and cigars) and Noble Savage (whiskey and allows smoking) would be the closest options for that. Just need to marry the two.

oh well.

Buy up the old Sansone's / rat-infested Chinese joint. Or just run Maurice out of his derelict ski lodge.

My buddy from back home won't purchase a single Nola beer because he things the cans are the tackiest things he's ever seen.

was that even the same guys? that would be a horrible location though

Yes, I think the same crew. Here's the page from back in 2013.

Red River Brewing

I just remember driving out the address listed on the website and it was a wood lot at that time.

I agree that location would be horrible. That location would not have a lot of traffic but if they moved to that part of Viking that will intersect with the road being built for the Kroger Market Place, they might have more success.

All in all, though, I am glad to see more microbreweries opening in Louisiana. For so many years, the offerings were few and far between unless you just wanted Abita.

but I was told they were raising a lot of money to open a taproom

I just heard the same thing not too long ago. What I heard from the beginning is that they put together all the money they could scrape up between the three of them, make as much beer as they could, and once the beer had proven itself, then get investors/loans.

I say good for them- I like Hay-Ryed, they just don't seem to have much of a social presence like Great Raft does. I definitely think the SBC can support 3 breweries.

I think they will be able to draw from Shreveport. They are just across the river from downtown, fairly accessible from I-20 or the Bossier Parkway, and Shreveport folks eat at the restaurant across the street all the time.

If the beer is good, they will come.

I look forward to trying the Black Heart Stout.

quote:

This beer does not fall into any category so we like to just call it a Smooth Black Ale. With complex malt flavors that convey a surprisingly fruity character, rather than roasted or toasty. It is very smooth, with a rich viscous body that feels satiny and sexy on the tongue. It’s just plain good. Hop heads should look elsewhere, as this one is clearly a malt lover’s dream.

Their website could use a little upgrade.

I wonder if it will draw like Great Raft though. Every time I go the place is packed

There are a few cool buildings down town that might make for a neat cigar bar set up. I do hit up Vintage on occasion. Its a weird scene though. Either there are 3 or 4 cigars lit and every one is cool with it or its packed with uptight shreveport wives that scowl at you just before firing up your stick.

Something like The Merchant in Lafayette mixed with a good spirits bar

I will keep the dream alive. Maybe in a few years this will pan out.

A part of that is because Great Raft is putting out really good beer.

Correct. Put out great beers accessible to everyone and people will come.

that and Great Raft has a great community and social media presence

they are always doing some type of event

I don't think Red River has posted anything on FB for a couple of months. In fact, I remember they had some type of event at Rotolos in Bossier one time and no one showed up. They bitched about it on FB, but then people had to tell them that no one knew about it because they didn't tell anyone. All they did was put up a few posters at the Rotolos location.

I see them pop up every now and then in my feed, but it's not about their beer. The last thing they posted about one of their beers was November 21st.

It sounds like they made some different and interesting things (on paper, anyway) for BREW and LCBW. But they just don't understand how to promote themselves very well.

It's for sale. $700,000. Not sure if that comes with the money laundering business or if you have to do that on your own.

Just have to worry about getting people down there consistently. I'd almost want to put one down in south Shreveport, but the lack good space architecturally & culturally would be a hindrance.

for real, it really does draw two separate distinct crowds at time.
