Eh. Young guys in town for Jazz Fest, I don't think it's that terrible. Not like they subsisted off of Rally's and gas station hot dogs. I'm sure if he were to come to Nola for a long weekend where his days weren't preoccupied with a music festival he would seek out and choose better options .. some of which he did, that you didn't list.

Cafe Roma was a mistake, as I acknowledged in the OP. We were going to go to half moon, but they didnt serve food till 5 so we went across the street.

Juans was fine. We had to eat fairly quickly because the girl who we were with who had a car had to go pickup her brother from the airport. We were able to sit right down and get an order in. Thought the fish tacos were very good.

Rum House was Sunday night post festival and it was perfect for us. We couldnt come to an agreement of what we all wanted and we looked at the menu and everybody was cool with tacos. We were able to sit as en entire group instead of getting broken up. They have a lively bar and plenty of space outside to continue getting drunk while we waited for our table.

Had the cochon de lait and the stuffed artichoke. I was on some appetite suppressors while at the fest so I was mostly trying to get fricked up.

Ya fail for sure on my part. Certain festival things take away your appetite though.

Just seems like a bad move to pass up a TON of really stellar food at the fest to save room for places like Juan's and Rum House.

Ahhh I got ya now. LOL I thought you were saying you didn't the food there because you didn't want to lose your appetite for eating later. The penny has officially dropped.

been to both and i cant really agree with you.

and this is from a guy who made this thread on here months ago

/the-obsession-with-the-avenue-pub.aspx

I guess it depends what youre looking for. Flying Saucer has a good bit of a corporate feel to it. Avenue Pub is the exact opposite. The beer selection, well its different states. I guess it all depends what youre looking for. If you want to sit down and relax and theres more than a hand of people in the place, ill go with flying saucer.

It's a sterile chain. It may have good beer but I'd rather go to ave pub

He came in for jazz fest to see music with a bunch of people his age, I'll give him a pass for not going to Le Foret and Stella

Hay Merchant has the same feel. I prefer Petrol Station to both.

I agree, but both have their place.

Ave Pub is a damn fine beer bar. Why is there the need to clamor over whether it's top 2 or 3 or 4 in the south ?

I think Boo hit the nail on the head. It's uniquely NOLA and it can appease just about any beer connoisseur. Although I'm not a fan of when I order food and the oblivious hippy behind me starts blowing smoke across my table.

Avenue Pub is a fine beer bar. It is just not the best in the "SE" simply from a selection stand point. Brickstore and the porter to name 2 have an infinitely better selection.
