It wasn't last weekend. Nothing on the beer list interested me enough to stop in. Oddly enough, urinetrouble said the same thing.
I did, but I left BR at 8:30 and wanted to get to JF when the gates opened at 11:00. So, I only had a small window for a little beer excursion and opted to go to Stein's instead. If I would have had more time beforehand, I definitely would have stopped in.

You get used to it

The owner is a greedy a-hole, which is my biggest problem with The Cove.
The Cove does usually have a great selection, especially since they implemented the taproom.
But there are lot of more things I can find wrong with The Cove compared to AP. And the difference in ownership sums it up. I've listened to Tom bitch about Stone and other west-coast breweries are overrated and not worth a shite. What does Polly do instead: She invites the owners to her bar for special events where special beers are served.

Don't you live in BR ? Sure coming to NOLA is a common thing.
Exactly. When you live just over an hour away, the selection would have to constantly be unreal to be "can't-miss" every time you're in the city.

I'm not trying to say she is. I'm just pointing out the differences.
I don't really know her personally like say a distributor would, if that's what you're getting at. But I like whatever she puts forth as beer bar owner from my perspective as a consumer.

I think she generally runs the place well, but I won't deny the shite they pulled with that first "keg" of KBS pissed me off a bit. In the end it all worked out, but super frustrating in the moment.

I actually think the big events, especially on the weekends, are overrated and mostly a PITA. I really enjoy the pub for a few after work or on weekend mornings. Great place to start or finish a day. I like it low key. Mid week beer releases are great, even better when it's a new brewey roll out.
Posted on 4/30/14 at 8:56 pm to urinetrouble
Again, I'm obviously in the minority. But when the guy from Cleveland leaves underwhelmed by the alleged best beer bar in the southeast, well, what can I say?

Y'all really derailed this thread

Good summary, Trey.
I've only been to the Midcity location and that was for a busy lunch, but I was not impressed at all. I need to give them a chance when they're not in the weeds.
Cool. Didn't know they had a new chick. A far cry from when I got in to them in high school and it was Theryl DeClouet on the mic.
You might not know since you don't go there often, but did they have the renovations done for the expansion? The compacted crowd is the only thing keeping me from there for lunch some days.
It is the best beer bar in town. It is, as they say about other things in this town, uniquely New Orleans. It's one of the last places like it in this country as far as beer bars go. Smoking, 24/7, and a-hole workers make it uniquely New Orleans. It doesn't hurt that Polly can pull some pretty good beers. It's not the best beer bar in the south, but it's really close. Much better than anything what most southern cities have to offer. Atlanta might be the only place that I've been to in the south that has better beer places. I still need to make it to Asheville, however.

Avenue Pub...Was kind of shocked when I was told it was the best beer bar in the city. New Orleans needs to step its beer game up, big time.

Pretty sure someone posted in a thread maybe about two or three weeks ago that it has been completed and apparently it's pretty fantastic.

I've spent/spend/will spend a lot of time in Asheville. Avenue trumps any single bar in that city, bar none. Closest competition would be The Thirsty Monk, which is admittedly good in its own right. That being said, I immensely prefer Avenue. The thing Asheville has going for it is that it's, well, Asheville, and beer flows like water there. Fantastic beer region.

That's basically what happened
As the story goes, Avenue received two kegs of KBS. They tapped one that day and put the other one back for ACBW. I showed up after an hour and 15 minutes and the keg was "blown" despite there being very few people there acually drinking beer. Then about ten days ago another keg of KBS magically showed up at Avenue. This one apparently blew quickly as well. The prevailing theory is that they pulled the keg early so they could drop it at another time. Given the details that's not unbelievable, especially when Bulldog in Mid had their keg on for a couple hours before it was empty and the place was slammed that day.
Just seemed fishy and I had the butthurt because I really wanted to try it. But I had a couple pints two days later so it's whatever.
