I really enjoyed SN's Estate this year, but I did not ever try the Celebration. I did not like the wax stuff on the bottle though. A man should not have to fight that much to get to his beer.

never tried the Estate but the Celebration is solid, dry-hopped ale. Not a standard winter seasonal but I like hoppy beers so I'm a big fan.

fair enough...

on another topic, what do you think of the Ommegang Abbey Ale? Just picked up one for the first time. I've just turned my attention to Belgian ales, so I have little experience in this area. Find myself strangely excited about drinking a beer with a cork...

Kim, I think I have a couple of Celebrations left-I'll throw one in your assortment I've got for you.

Speaking of which, I need to get those to you sometime.

I'll be our of town Tuesday and Wednesday night, trying the pizzas at Domenica so I can weigh in on the debate in the Roosevelt thread. Monday or Thursday would work for me to turn over the hostages, just let me know.

My 2 favorite styles of beer are American IPAs and Belgian style ales. Once Ommegang made it to BR last year I dove in pretty hard. IMO, Ommegang is the best domestic brewer of Belgian style ales. I think they come closest to making beers that actually taste like they were brewed in Belgium. If you like Chimay Red, you will like this beer. Try their Three Philosophers Ale. Remarkable.

I think it's possible this is the best domestic brew I've had to date, although some of these Bell's are close. I've got a friend that can't stand beer (can't believe we are friends, but she IS incredibly cute). Last beer tasting at my house, she had this and the Ommegang Aphrodite (their fruity beer) and promptly went to Matherne's and bought a couple of bombers of each.

I can't argue with this. It is certainly up there.

Late reply, but yeah probably. If they have the Stormaktsporter ( which you can probably pronounce) it's worth a try. It might be gone.

Pretty good. I can definitely taste the 10% ABV.

I think it hides its high ABV pretty well.

Almost done with FBD and it is already growing on me. The 10% is starting to taste like 7%.

Good beer.
