FBD - Rainy Day Crawfish Boil

After the shitty day of LSU basketball this week, and more specifically yesterday, I’m ready for my first crawfish of 2019 to cure what ails me!

My buddy, TD Username: Bill Walton (banned since 2017), made a trip to Austin for Mardi Gras, and he and his lovely gf were willing to mule me back some barley-licious goodies from that beer haven. I broke into said goodies this am in preparation for the boil.

FBD was one of many Tupp’s 8th edition DDHIPA’s I’ve seen you Texas baws drinking. It is really good. Anyone who has an opportunity to try this: IT’S WORTH IT. Lemondrop and Mosaic hops spell one another to give you just enough dank blueberry to balance the floral/herbal light lemon of the Lemondrop while that experimental Asian hop provides the majority of character in sweet orange and light vanilla. Killer beer out of McKinney.



Second beer opened was a New England from Two Wheel called RacePointer. Canned on 01/09, and was oxidized as expected. Not great. (No pic)
Third beer opened was from Hops and Grain in Austin, a great spot I’ve visited when in the city. It was their Haze County DIPA, another New England. A bit fresher, being canned on 1/25, but still slightly oxidized. Some slight cloying sweetness from oxidation that actually plays nicely with the satsuma/citrus notes I’m getting from the hops. Ended up tasting and smelling a lot like a fresh sweet satsuma. I’m sure I would have liked it more without the extracty sweetness though. Fresher hop notes, etc...



And saving the best for last... this Houston Haze 7% NEIPA from Spindletap that I’ve been dying to try after seeing all the pictures you Houston people have been posting! The beer pours a terrifically milky golden-yellow. I can smell some unfermented sweetness... I’m excited. The nose reminds me of old Envie or Ghost or even first batch Grace&Grit. And the taste completes the nostalgia trip. This is what the best New England’s of Louisiana tasted like in 2016-2017! Intense sweet fruit juice containing citrus, stonefruit, and light tropics. This beer is the best Commercial New England I’ve tasted in a long while. I might make a trip over to Houston soon just to load up!
