The real travesty is what barrel aging does to Old Rasputin. The base beer is thick and delicious, the barrel aged version is thin and boring. I remember being so excited when I first saw it and so disappointed when I tasted it.

It sounds to me like he wants to drink it. More power to him.
Personally I can't justify paying that much for a beer. I'd only buy for the trade value, but it's gone down so much since people started giving it less than stellar reviews that it'd be tough to get $4$ back for it (except for shelf beers)

Yeah, I'll be drinking it. Saving for a special occasion, of course. I couldn't be happier with the way it worked out honestly. Having the people right in front of me winning it then winning the next item was pretty cool.
I was really excited for my Raspy too. I hope they've changed some things since 8thyear had it last.

No, it wouldn't. The people that are trading for it and giving up more than $4$ and know what they are trading for. They know it's a beer they'll sit on for a year plus before it gets right. A friend of mine flipped his for 40 cans of Tree House. That's almost 2 cases, which is practically 4x $4$.
