Are you still in Houston? I'm meeting TigerHam at Flying Saucer in a couple weeks, you should come and we'll tear the place down.

I'll be there Friday-Sunday and depending on how these interviews go, either moving back in a few weeks, or moving my stuff back to nola this weekend. Toss-up at this point to be honest. Houston is a legit place, but home is where the heart is and I'm not taking a career hit by moving at this point in my professional life. So, I'm hoping to end up back here.

my next move is houston. it'll be after i finish graduate school unless i get some off the wall offer that i can't pass up, which is doubtful. if my friend still owns his condo i have my first home and all. can't wait.

They've been killing it at FS downtown lately. Hopefully they have some quality beers on tap when you're here.

I know it's ACBW, but tonight they had BB3, Black Ops '10, Avery Beast '08 and Mephistophles '08

Good luck, man. I know the feeling...just in reverse. From Houston, but went to LSU. Got a great job in BR, but always felt like I needed to move back home. Finally found another great job in Houston and took the plunge. Been happy ever since.

You won't regret it, its the best thing for your career and its not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, assuming you live inside the loop and you are young. I have several friends here back at home that are now realizing their career paths are deadends, asking me what they should do. The answer is move to Houston, its that simple.

The perspective on life, experience in your field (I work in finance but its heavily related to energy), and the industry connections you will make, even in my 2 short years there, will advance you so much its borderline sad. Nobody wants to do it though, they think they can walk into the same job that I will. I'm sorry, your Loyola law degree or lsu mba =/= my 3 years experience, cpa, and other progressing certificates. Oh and the beer, which I have so immensely taken for granted. Just make sure you bring your pot and boiler, the crawfish cooking will make you re-evaluate your belief in a higher power.

Big timer huh? Sure, I haven't tried Envie or Farmhouse. I'll send you an email in a couple days to talk about it.

my education is heavily focused towards the oil industry (geology/geophysics), so i should have no problems with my career. My old roommate from LSU who's also one of my best friends lives right near riveroaks, and i spend a lot of time out there staying with him. I always heard houston was a terrible place to visit but a great place to live. Even though all i do is visit at this stage, i do it so often that i've discovered my own little things i like. hell, i'm apart of the galveston bay foundation and i live in lafayette.

i cater crawfish with yellowfin as a side job actually, so i have that under control.

Must be nice. This beer habit can be hard to support on my income, I have to be very cautious about what I buy when I head to Calandro's or anywhere to get beer.. I'm more concerned about trying new beers rather than drinking lots of beers that I've already had

I would say its a great place to work and a fine place to live. I enjoyed my time there, but I went there for a purpose (to get experience to get jobs that were otherwise unavailable to me in nola at the time) and I think I've achieved that purpose. I also didn't get there until I was 25 (grad school, undergrad "delays" but it all worked out okay), but a few of my friends moved there right out of college and totally wrecked shite for 3 years. I kept doing damage, just a different group.

To that point, it is unobjectively a better place for a young single person to live relative to NOLA, and I say that as a person who will fight you if you say shite about my city. It's a good place, you're in a good spot (my roommate is a geo), you'll enjoy your time there. Its definitely a beer culture too, much more so than NOLA (we just like liquor more, neither here nor there IMO.) I'll be back there regularly, my job isn't changing, just my location. West Alabama Ice House and Los Tierras Caliente Tacos followed by a late night at TK Bittermans across the street is as good a time as you can ask for.

I'm hoping this is an old batch, because it's terrible. Almost no hop flavor, just a malty, syrupy mess. I couldn't find the date on the can so I risked it and bought a 4 pack because I've been wanting to try this, but I doubt I drink the rest.

I knew it wasn't just me. I had the exact same experience.

I tetu'd two cans and gave the other two away.

I'm a big Karbach fan, but I'll admit Rodeo Clown is a pretty subpar DIPA compared to everything else we have access to in Houston.

Though their new DIPA, Hop Delusion, is up there with Endeavor IMO. I'm really excited for it to hit stores.
