FBD was a 2014 BCBS courtesy of Wise
We've been doing well so far. If you check our IG/snapchat stories, we are posting where you can buy in New Orleans, @nolabrewbus

Damn. NOLA only got the Barleywine variant. And not much of it.

Sitting out BCBS this year. Felt nice not be in line at 6am today. Last year every bottle shipped to Florida except Rare and Regal was infected. Lots of folks here got screwed by GI on the refunds. Sounds like FL didnt get nearly as many bottles as years past and apparently GI held some Rare and Regal back as some stores had cases of each. Very little of the Coffee found its way here too.

Coffee and Barleywine were atrocious in 2015.
Binny's in Lincoln Park just opened their doors about 10 minutes ago. People have been camping out there for days.

If butcher boy in plaquemine or the Pierre Part store doesn't have it, guess I'm out this year.

All of the regular BCBS shipped to FL had the dreaded 10/21 bottling date too. So they were all bad as far as FL was concerned.
Initially GI announced refunds on Barley and Coffee. Some folks got refunds there. Then GI said regular was fine and lots of people disposed of their bottles. Months later GI offers a refund for those but requires labels and photos. Folks submitted receipts instead and GI refused to honor them. In some cases like myself they gave a lower refund because I'd purchased a case or more.
GI didn't offer to refund kegs apparently. Some bars are still pissed.
The Goose burned a lot of bridges here. Even some well known craft beer bars are boycotting and not buying kegs.

I didn't really care for last year's vintage even before the infection. Didn't seem to have the body and bourbon backing as years past. Even if this year's tastes great fresh, I wonder how pasteurization will affect the aging. BCBS is typically a fantastic one to age. Not sure now.

Not sure I'll get any this year unless someone still has it tomorrow.

I'm certainly no expert, but since the beer is pasteurized I'd imagine the only thing effecting it will be oxidation. So it's only potential is down with time?

Someone commented last night that because of the pasteurization it will not age. That it will taste similar a year later as it would fresh.
One of the home brewers could probably comment more on that.

I'm not hunting for a few reasons. 1 other beers of equal or just a hair below are very easy to acquire. 2 every bottle I purchased last year was infected, refund or not, frick you for selling me infected beer. 3 I just don't think the price is worth it (that goes for more than just these beers to).

Wouldn't the lack of bottle-conditioning have an effect?
I'm not sure what makes the "glory days" BCBS age so well, but it does. Maybe the pasteurization won't change that. Just seems questionable.

pasteurized beers can still provide character evolution from the aging process but to a much lesser extent.
The big problem with high heat pasteurization is that it creates the possibility of stripping flavor from the beer which, if you are a purist, is a big no no.

I'm of the same mind. A lot of places are pasteurizing now(Great Divide, New Belgium). It is a good deal if you like the beer fresh, not so good if you don't as the yeast won't be eating anymore so the flavor shouldn't change much. There is now zero reason to be stocking up for years to come unless you like a little more cardboard taste in your beer each year.
With BA 10 Fidy and BA Yeti(20% cheaper this year) hanging around on shelves I see zero reason to make a special trip for any BCBS. I haven't cared for the last two years, fresh or aged. If I see a bottle on a shelf and it is reasonably priced I am sure I would pick one up but just one.

Instead of finding moist barrels with some bourbon left in it for sterilization purposes, GI has been buying up barrels regardless of how old they are. Some have dried out leaving room for infection. The sad story of Quanity over Quality.
I'm happy with buying the shite out of Backwoods Bastard which is miraculously chilling as a shelf turd at stores.
