Very True!
The Beer Lobby in Louisiana is Very Powerful. These assholes have made it very hard for any Outside Beer Companies to Enter the state. Most Breweries don't even want the hassle! So, in the end... we lose!

When Calandro's had the specials on Bear Republic (3.99 or 4.99 for a 22oz) we bought 12 of them for a tailgate. Boy was I barely able to stand up by game time. Between thos high ABV beers and the Redbreast Whiskey I was lathered up and ready to yell for the Tigers!

Glad we could help!

Nothing funnier than Touchdown Village on a Saturday, where men that buy their wives expensive jewelry and clothes, buy themselves 200+K RVs(and LSU to park it), with expensive BBQ pits to cook Hebert's, Belues, etc..finer meats..
Are drinking American p!sswater Lite, BL, or CL...fumble!!!
Not everybody appreciates the different tastes for one, for two I'd be three sheets to the wind and stuffed if I sat around for 8-10 hours drinking heavier beer. It's too hot to sit outside and drink fuller beer all day. Hence the reason and necessity for the Buds,Coors, and Millers of the world even entering the marketplace.

Yeah, that tailgate and ensuing game was a Too Much Alcohol event. The beer was good, though.

I lol at grown men drinking NASCAR beers. My buddy is a beer ranger for New Belgum. He said we are a long way away from getting it.

Someone just told me that New Belgium requires a specific Refridgerated Warehouse and Refridgerated Distribution System. And that the Distributors in Louisiana don't this.
BTW, can someone from Houston please bring me a Case of NB Abbey Ale? Thanks!

I love a good beer but then again I like all beer. Some more so than others. Funny how people turn down (so they claim) a lesser beer but will never turn down a hamburger. I never hear I will only eat the finest of steaks. Ground meat, how dare you offer me that low end of meat! Highest of beers and all that lower quality food at parties. Funny how beer and food are looked at different.
Has anyone ever seen a beer drinker turn down a free beer?

I have turned down free 'Natural Lite'.
I like beer with a stronger flavor. Miller Lite, Bud, High Life... doesn't do it for me. I'll turn down those unless I am desperate!

Hamburgers taste good. Crapy beer doesn't. I will turn down natty and most of the lights.

And FYI a lot of the distributors know what's up with the craft beer market. There has been a major shift here locally. If you want to point a finger at a "big beer company" don't look a bud/miller/coors, scope out Abita. They've been strong arming people more than anyone.
Say what?

As for New Belgium, the guy that owns it seems to have a vendetta against Louisiana. Said he will never distribute it here. Needless to say it surfaces every now and then off the menu at a few bars here in BR. Rumor has it that New Belgium was going to be based in LA but the state was trying to shaft him on permit fees and licensing. Thus he jumped to Texas.
I thought it was based in Fort Collins, CO

Last beer I made was a Fat Tire Clone. Probably still have at least a case left on tap in my kegerator. I prefer what I made though.

Thats exactly what I have been hearing is that Abita is a major player in keeping others out.
Posted on 11/18/10 at 3:24 pm to Brinner
My bad, Colorado is where New Belgium is. However, that was the story I was told by more than a few people.
As for what I said about Abita...I was told by my people in the business that Abita would tell them if they brought in any other craft beers to the market they would seek out a new distro company. Abita carries, or carried a lot of weight in terms of moving beer locally and what was available. Recently the influx of craft beer has made distribution companies more apt to tell them to shove it. Not that it's exactly how it went down, but the companies feared abita a lot less. Lazy Magnolia, Nola Brewing, Heiner Brau, Bayou Teche, Parish, and many others have all started popping up around here. Abita lost a little bit of its hold on the market. Abita has now upped their ante into the market when they released the big beer series a few years ago. Competition breeds better product. And that's what we are getting now.

They're probably just bitter considering for 15 or so years they were in the trenches fighting it out and now new breweries are dime a dozen
Posted on 11/18/10 at 3:41 pm to s14suspense
Eh, for a long time they weren't fighting shite out. They were THE ONLY local brewer. Jax, Dixie, Falstaff, and all the old ones were gone. They simply had what Bud/Miller/Coors didn't, local flavor.
They feared another upstart local guy supplying their customers. So that's why they always threatened the distributors. Now they had to update their stuff because they started seeing a lot of market infringement.
