Mine are thin, they don't need long to cook and have a decent char to the outside. Cook for a minute, smash, let them cook for two to three minutes, flip, cook, cheese, cover to melt the cheese, then serve.

Recent uptick in popularity is a backlash against decades of the gourmet burger fad. People are getting tired of the bacon jelly kimchi fried egg and peanut butter burgers.

Then after that, every single trendy restaurant had a burger called like "the burger" with house-made American, special sauce and two patties.

I miss a perfectly executed steakhouse burger tbh

I had the Chilis version and I’d rather a Big Mac. It was a dry overcooked mess.

Your problem is that you ate at Chilis, not that you had a smash burger.

The maillard reaction. Browning of the meat is the basis for all cooking. It's what creates flavor.

Not only that, but it gives it texture. To have a burger that's crispy all around, but still juicy is the stuff of dreams. A new place just opened near my house and it's fantastic.

I really don't find myself craving a thick patty burger anymore. A double smash burger is usually more than enough.

We’ve a a few good experiences at the Mandeville Chili’s lately. No complaints, good P/Q.

I like regular burgers but the George Montz/ Oklahoma Onion smash burger is really good.

SANTA FE, NM—Stressing that he did not need “a ton of fancy toppings,” local dad Dennis Metzger reportedly expressed frustration to his dining companions at the Boxcar Bar and Grill Wednesday, explaining that he just wanted to order a normal burger. “Is putting a regular, ordinary burger on the menu too much to ask?” said the 54-year-old father of three, who went on to state that a hamburger with ketchup and American cheese on a sesame seed bun was just fine without having to add a bunch of weird other stuff to it. “Everything on here has chipotle mayo or blue cheese or a toasted brioche bun or some kind of Cajun spice. And is regular lettuce suddenly not good enough anymore? Is that why they have seasonal microgreens, whatever the hell those are supposed to be?” Seconds later, reports confirmed Metzger had moved on from the burger menu and allowed his complete frustration to settle upon the restaurant’s exclusive selection of locally brewed craft beers.
