Evacuated to a friends south of Houston, specifically the Manvel/Pearland area right by 288. Looks like we’re going to be here at least a week so need some reccomendations. Friend has only lived here a few months so they’re no help.

What’s the best Tex-Mex and BBQ within a reasonable drive from here? Any other can’t miss places?

Yeah, Lupe’s seems to have big fans and big haters.

Put me in the hater category. If they charged Gringo’s prices, I wouldn’t mind so much. But they’re charging El Tiempo/Pappasitos prices, for, at least in my unprofessional opinion, an inferior product.

My wife likes Lupe a lot, though. So the struggle is even under my own roof.

This. I like them but seem pricey to me.

Roegel’s (Texas Monthly too joint) and I would definitely make the drive to Tejas. They are on my list to catch on my way back from getting my smoker in a week and a half.

Head down to Pier 6 in San Leon for really good seafood on the water. You’ll get a great view of the ship channel bridge across the bay from their expansive covered patio. After a few Liquid Sunshines you won’t be able to see the bridge anyway. On the drive down, stop by the Chopping Block in Webster and pick up some dry aged ribeyes and specialty boudin to cook at home.

That sounds amazing. Was already planning on taking the kids to that boardwalk and that's just a bit further down the road.

Due to convenience along with the steak fajita recommendation we tried Lupe Tortilla tonight. The food was good, I did have a bit of sticker-shock from the fajita prices but once the food came it wasn't so bad- you can basically craft 3 hearty fajita burritos out of what they give you and those giant tortillas. Flavor was good and I enjoy and appreciate the grilled jalapeno pepper.

Only problem was the wait for food- we ordered around 5 and didn't get our food until 5:30, which is the opposite of just about every tex mex experience I've ever had where the food comes out super fast. Better than eating canned tuna in the dark so cant complain much. Kids also enjoyed the free ice cream. Thanks for the recommendation.
