I'd like to be able to boil crawfish/shrimp with the same burner as I cook a jambalaya. What are the suggestions?

I'm thinking a large banjo burner that I can hook up to a high pressure reg for crawfish and then dial it down to low psi for jambalaya. Thanks for any feedback

I have found that a lot of those are cheap crap unless you really spend big bucks (and then that's still a possibility) so I go cheap. I know in 2-3 years I'm going to toss it or spend an hour with a wire wheel and rustoleum heat paint.

I use a banjo for both crawfish and my 10 gallon jambalaya pot. Works great for both.

TCO, why the disappointment?
Banjo doesn't hold up or you can't get a nice blue/clear flame with a 20psi reg?

Tmar1no, what are you running? Is it home built?
Details please.

I have a small 6" banjo burner, so i already have 2 sets of burners, so maybe I should just be content. Space is getting tight in garage and storing 1 would be better than storing 2.

Well we don’t know the size of your seafood pot, so I’m just assuming 100-120 qt, in which case you need a jet burner to get that puppy rolling in a timely manner.

This has been a topic of a couple of threads this spring.

A banjo is designed for jambalaya.

A jet burner is designed for boiling.

Yes, you can use a banjo for boiling, but it won’t be as good as a jet burner.

Get 2 burners. Do it right.

I use the bayou classic 16" burner.

I have been cooking a sack in an 80 quart and it gets up to temp just fine and quick enough for me.

I cheat and put hot water from the faucet in the pot to cut down on the time to reach boiling

So Tmar, for a boil are you hooking up a high pressure regulator to it so it will really put out a flame.

I came across this comparison of jet burner and cast iron burner.
So it looks like I could use a 30 psi reg on a cast iron burner. Then for normal cooking dial it back to 2 psi or so.
Thoughts?

People can say what they want. A banjo with a 30 psi regulator gets my pot boiling in less than 15 minutes. That's a two sack pot.

I don't need more than that and would rather hang out next to a banjo than a screaming F-35.

The Bayou 16” and 20”(?) banjos put out more BTU’s than a jet with much less noise. Not quiet but way less noise than a jet.
