i recommend starting at Chick-fil-a, then maybe Cane's. Take it slow. don't rush out to a Popeye's right away.

One Saturday night in 2005 a group of my friends and I took dates to Rasputin on 3rd street. There was a dress code there and you couldn't come in with t-shirts or shorts. People were dressed really cool.. mostly in black and white and the women there were smokin hot. Couple weekends later I saw two couples trying to get in. They were wearing college t-shirts and jorts. They were actually yelling at the doorman because they didn't understand why they weren't being let in. The loudest of the men yelled at the doorman, "This place will be closed in a year".. He was right. And I've yet to see a crowd as well dressed on a regular Saturday night in BR.

b/c when i am snot slinging drunk from .25 martinis and wearing a dress shirt, i prefer to be able to stare at well dressed, fit women in sundresses....not pasty thighed beasts that love kettle corn, early kickoffs, and fanny packs.

You're funny.

I'd rather be overdressed, i.e. look better compared the pasty-thighed kettlecorn lovers.

i hate dressing up
If I do, it's because I'm still working or I couldn't get home from the funeral in time to change before dinner...and I still probably ditched the tie. I don't take even a sport jacket on vacation....I love good food , but rarely will I dress up for dinner.Have nothing against those that do, but it's just not something I'll do.

Correlation does not equal causation. Rasputin's was pretty cool, I just don't think BR is ready for that kind of a place.

not in general, but in this case it does seem like the whole dress code/ultra chic/trendy thing was likely a cause for it's downfall in BR...i mean only minorities like to get all dressy to go out in BR.

What say you, board? Am I just caught up in the old school ways and out of touch with today's acceptable dining norms or is this a lost tradition that should (but won't) be brought back?

Hell no my man, you are spot on on this one. Everytime I go out in public i seem to ask myself more and more "who let you out of the house like that?" I dont know if its a generational things as much as a parenting thing. Last time i went to one of my favorite places in BR there was a guy in there with jeans, a t-shirt, and a cowboy hat (nothing against cowboys)....turns out he was from Bama. I'm 26 and I will not wear jeans to a nice restaurant or church for that matter which is a whole other topic. I wouldn't wear jeans to work even if i could. I understand however it is accepted in many professions, but people just dont seem to understand how much appearance relates to perception. I think people these days just have no sense of respect for themselves or other people - I mean how long does it take to run an iron across a pair of khakis? Or shite - tuck your shirt in for gods sake! Ive always thought its way better to be overdressed than under-dressed in any situation. At my interviews for PT school a few months back there were actually guys without a jacket and tie. Unreal....

Yes, very. When I'm not dispensing sartorial advice, I have a lot of work to do.

Now excuse me while I don something appropriate for slurping margaritas at El Nopal.
