Downtown sucked before the open container law allowance, sucked when you could drink downtown, and it's going to suck when they enforce it again.
The common denominator is the people.
I can't imagine a group saying yea let's not go downtown because I can't walk from happys to b&ts with a beer in hand and instead let's go to radio with the try hards

The bars and restaurants downtown wanted the law enforced outside of Delgado. I know that for a fact.

Lol. I didn't even want to address that because of how absurd it is.

Maybe not the Radio Bar part but that's def a reason I don't go, along with all my friends and family.

The law is in effect BECAUSE of the people.

You aren't a target audience if that's what it took you to go downtown. Before the time when you could drink on 3rd, you never went downtown because you couldnt bring drinks from bar to bar?
I grew up in nola where you can walk around anywhere with a beer and I never thought once about avoiding downtown because of this law. Is it that hard to finish a drink or tell your friends and family hey I'll be there in 5 minutes after I finish this beer?

You never had to, now you do. People are avoiding it bc of that. Even if it's 5% less, it's happening.
I'm 33 and drink 5 days a week. I am the market.

Never had to what?
You weren't always able to drink on 3rd street

Interesting. Didn't think people even knew this was being enforced - I surely didn't. My group doesn't go downtown because the bars in our part of town are better.. plus it's like $15 per way to Uber downtown.
If you're 33 and drink 5 days a week, we might know each other.

Texas Club still going strong after all these years

They were writing 300-400 in a weekend when it first kicked off. It's dropped down some but I have someone call me at least every other week asking for help with a OC ticket.
And yeah, we might know each other.

You never had to finish your drink. Grew up in BR and since I was legally able to drink you could walk anywhere downtown without an issue.

That doesn't sound right to me. Years ago, it was some huge deal when you were able to walk down 3rd street with a drink. In the early 2000s, I couldn't leave a bar with a beer down there

Hmm...so you're 33 now, so you turned 21 sometime around 2005. That must have been a lonely, dark, stroll from Happy's to Rasputin, even with beer in hand.
I interviewed in Baton Rouge in 2006, staying at the Hilton downtown. I almost didn't accept my offer because it was so dead down there (and that was my only impression of BR at the time).

Don’t forget Marazil’s, the Brazilian steakhouse

Concerts and events.
Was a member of clubs that also put events on and we would walk from the Camelot or City the third street. There were bars downtown 10 years ago. There were fewer places that warranted bar hopping but never the less it wasn't an issue. No one even thought about it.
