Had never heard of it till I read about it here. Made chili Sunday and poured a little in the pot. Best chili ever. Well done group and thanks.

I like to use a coffee-style lager or a brown ale, which mimics a lot of the notes of coffee. Turbo Dog, Reasonably Corrupt, even Shiner Bock are all great additions to a pot of chili.

Bitter dark chocolate is also an amazing addition to chili.

Liquid coffee. I had some left in the pot from that
Morning and just eyeballed it (less than a cup ). It was a “regular” pot of chilli- family size.

A little digging yielded this:

Says you can use espresso powder as well. Definitely made a better chili, regardless.

I like to use a coffee porter/stout in mine as well. Get the chocolate and coffee notes in the chili.

Thanks for the beer and chocolate tips! Will try them.

Chocolate powder or just melting a few pieces and adding to the pot?

I have suggested it on here before, but I also like dark (semisweet) chocolate in there too sometimes.

I like the 70% or more Dark Chocolate, just based off of how big the pot is. 6Qt pot I use around 1/2 a bar.

I use the 86% cacao Ghiradelli bars. For a normal pot, about 1 1/2 squares. I crush them up before adding so they melt a little faster.

I have used dark chocolate bars, but, never tried the coffee. Will definitely give it a shot.

I do a dash of cinnamon in chili as well.

I do use liquid coffee in my sausage gravy.
