Good lord people over-value dogs in our society. Kids go hungry all over America and yall are passing out cookies and steak trimmings to canines. A lot of posters in here probably think Mike Vick didn't do enough time.

F*cking A I do. I still believe a person that owns dogs to fight them and personally kills dogs that don't perform to his sick expectations is a sick f*ck and should have been banned from the NFL for a few more years, too. Let's not forget the chronic ganja use, either. And I will not buy Nike products since they believe St. Vick is rehabbed and needed to throw millions his way.

My dogs eat a blend of three different dry foods, one is TOTW with bison which has 32% protein content, the others have lamb and salmon. The Dobe likes raw vegetables, the Pit Bull can't stand them. They both get some unseasoned fish, chicken, and/or beef when we are having it and dog specific treats. They don't get sugar cookies, pizza, Doritos, etc. And they tag team birds, squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits but don't eat them, and also live primarily in the house. Both are very fit at 55 and 70 lbs and sleep in the bed. YMMV.

I think he served too much time. I love my dogs, but they're just dogs.

That is the disconnect. To many of us, they are NOT just dogs.

Only thing I would change is that "I like my dogs a lot "

I'll admit I'm torn both ways. If it was my dog.., but it wasn't my dog. I've come to understand that we can't treat them like humans over the past couple years. Through (1) a dog with lots of problems (very scared timid basset hound) and (2) having a son of my own. After the 2nd one the dogs took a big backseat. I still treat dogs with kindness since they are living breathing creatures that feel pain.

That being said, I dont understand how some people get more worked up over someone fighting/killing dogs than they do over killing humans. I'm not saying you're completely in this category or not, but peta people wanted him dead ...... Dogs=/=Humans.

sorry for the novel...

No, I do love them, but the love for my son is on another level, and it aint even close. tetu jr coming along really put dogs place on the heirarchy into perspective. Also, ironically, watching Cesar Milan's training series pushed me more into the direction of dogs=/=humans. From a training standpoint, it makes sense. You are the the alien God that helped build pyramids, dogs are egyptians.

For only $x.xx a day you could help a dog in need. Similar to the ones they have for starving Africans.

Dogs are legally treated as chattel, I get that. And I am not a PETA freak. The way the media sensationalizes and desensitizes people to the gazillion human homicides per year is one reason why it appears dog lovers are much more vocal about severe dog abuse. I personally do not hate MV, I hate his participation and financial support of Pit Bull fighting and my wife would not lift a finger to help him from a burning car wreck and she is a caring person. MV also screwed over a lot of people financially and has acknowledged not putting forth much effort improving his skills as a passing QB nor studying the game while with the Falcons, I'm not a Falcon fan but not the kind of player I would support. The NFL rewarding him with a quick return to the league didn't make me a fan of the commissioner, either.

IMO, people that were abused or grew up torturing animals are more likely to move up the chain to humans later in life. Fighting dogs is not a substitute for supposed "sport", there is nothing sporting about being put to death or permanently maimed against your own will in a violent, bloodthirsty manner for humans supposed entertainment.

Most dogs are very resilient, people should read the book on Vick's dogs and, although trained to fight, the vast majority were able to be rehabbed and placed in homes. I don't like dogs more than humans, but I do love my two 4-legged rescue girls and never cease to be amazed by the cruelty of some people on this planet, especially human on human.

How did they reward him exactly? He did his time, was still physically able to play, and a team wanted him. If I go to jail for dogfighting I won't be blackballed by the industry I'm in, but I wouldnt call that being rewarded.

How come I never heard from you guys when it was legal to fight roosters.

I have two rescue dogs. One from the pound and one we picked up off River Road (boxer/yellow lab mix) and we found another on RR that my inlaws took in (american bulldog). The two on RR where tramatized bad but became wonderful pets. I trust them both with my 6mo more than many dogs that came from breeders and yes I love them too. I'm not a dog hater.

Me too, at least the first couple times. Then I said F that, they're just dogs. If I could take in another I would, but when faced with giving money for dogs vs humans, humans will always win.

I agree 100%.

Dogs, by in large, are much better living creatures than most human beings.

If very limited intelligence, no will, nearly complete dependence, zero analytical skills and little to no conscience is a definition of "better."

Those commercials are for non profits. Like I said, the purpose of a non profit is to make profits for the people who run the non profits.

Here is a dog v. human scenario.
Bullet through the head, make a choice:

a. Hugo Chavez
b. Nancy Grace
c. Chaz Bono
d. Justin Bieber
e. Your Dog
