Seriously.
Is it unique to San Francisco the way jambalaya is unique to South Louisiana?

No
It was created and produced by a guy in SF, but that is about it. It wasn't some well known SF dish that years later got packaged by someone

Not really. Rice-A-Roni was founded in San Francisco - hence “A San Francisco Treat.”
Their marketing slogan was fantastic though an it legitimately made people think it’s San Francisco cuisine.

I always hated rice-a-roni. It tasted like garbage compared to Mom's or Maw Maw's rice and gravy.

I used to love that when I was younger, well into college and after, but haven’t had it in a very long time.

They make a heat and eat pouch that makes enough for a two portion side. It's ready in 90 seconds and surprisingly good for what it is.

San Francisco restaurants are in love with sourdough bread. That was the first time I’d ever seen soup served in a bread bowl.

Agreed. I like the vermicelli noodles in it.

The Knorr versions are not bad either.
