Do you mix bourbon and coke (Sprite whatever) when serving it to someone?

We're hosting a deal tonight. Have a couple bartenders (just old dudes in tux's) serving the drinks. When someone orders a whiskey and coke, should they mix it before handing it to them? I drink my whiskey neat and know what needs to be done with the clear liquor. But I have a feeling this is a Crown/Jack and coke crowd. Tia

Have you never ordered a whiskey and coke at a bar in your life?
Of course you mix it

I almost don’t even understand the question.

Yea, back in the college days I'm sure I did. But I don't remember if they mixed it or just poured in the two components. I don't remember lots of stuff from back then

How bout this. Should I tell these "bartenders" to pour in the whiskey/coke and hand it to the person, have them mix from cup to cup before handing it to the person, or just stir with a spoon and hand it to the person?

cup, ice, 2 ounces of JD, pour coke in, will self mix, hand to the person.

It doesn't matter. They're putting coke in their whiskey, it will taste the same no matter which route the bartenders go

This was worded very strangely fyi. I think you are asking if they need to stir the ingredients before serving it and the answer is no.
Pour in the whiskey, pour in the coke, and hand it over. It’ll mix itself.

Thank you. I thought that would be the correct procedure but wasn't sure.
If you happen to come to this fund raiser please note that the chicken salad and pimento cheese finger sandwiches contain mayo.

So you have people to mix the drinks, but you're not sure if they should mix the drinks?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess they'll be able to figure it out without the need for further instruction. In other words, pour the bourbon over ice, pour whatever mixer is requested, and hand to the guest.
Seems a weird thing to be overthinking.

Hahahaha! Not helpful.
How about a guy walks up and says “whiskey and coke” and the hired guys make it.
Or maybe you tell them how.
This is priceless.
I love your answer “I don’t remember a lot of things from back then”.
Cheers my friend.

To be fair, he said he thought the event might be in part a "Crown/Jack crowd" and not necessarily what he was offering or all he was offering. Even the haughtiest amongst us can be put in situations of having to mingle with and/or cater to the hoi polloi.

So you are paying guys to make drinks and you need to tell them how to make a whiskey and coke?
What a bizzare thread

They're 2 elderly black men in their 60's and 70's who have worked for us (and help raise me)for decades. On the farm, not tending bar. They have donned these tux's and served beer and wine at many a function, but rarely, if ever, have they had to mix cocktails. They have asked me questions and I have instructed them to give their vodka mixers a quick swirl of a spoon. The same for whiskey and waters. Neat and on the rocks obviously don't require anything but a pour. But I wasn't sure of the protocol on whiskey/sodas, as I often see people dumping them from cup to cup to mix. I have went back and re-read my posts and don't really see what's so confusing about it. But whatever. I think I've found my answer. Cheers
