Digulio's - What's the catch?

Over the years, I've been here maybe 5-6 times. I always feel like a sucker when leaving each time. The place has a cool vibe, small, fun atmosphere, good service, but the food...What am I missing? The last time I went, I tried their eggplant crispers as an app which was pretty good, but that was about the only thing worth getting again. I got the Grouper and also tried some spaghetti with their giant meatball. The grouper had pesto on it but it was all pretty bland. No flavor at all. As was the pasta that came with it. The spaghetti was similar and the meatball was also pretty blah.
Every time I've been, the place was packed and people are waiting to get a table. So what's so good about this place?

Can't speak to the grouper, but their chicken and eggplant parms are on point and reasonably priced for lunch.

I like the place, but I don't think the food is wildly amazing either.
Depending on which dish you get, they sauce cold plain noodles on the plate, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. You are supposed to toss a serving of pasta with the sauce and a splash of pasta water into a skillet and heat it together before serving.

I personally wouldnt go to an Italian restaurant like that and order fish, let alone a fish like grouper with pesto on it.
Maybe it was an off day on the meatballs because I have always enjoyed them.
These are my reasons for loving the place
-Their red sauce is great
-They give you a ton of food and even with entrees, you still get some spaghetti and sauce on the side
-Pre-dinner salads are all good
-Apps are the same
-The pizza goes under the radar in this city but it is up there with the best the city has to offer
-Plenty of specials every time im there
-Bartender has been there forever
-Guy running the place is on top of his shite like the bartender above
-They have arguably the best looking waitstaff in the entire city
-Atmosphere is probably the best in the city for a restaurant. Feels like just an old school neighborhood place. Everyone knows each other. Its lively and everyone is drinking.
The only gripe I have is lack of reservations

Mike seriously has been there forever. I think he's a part owner now. I know he married the original owner's daughter.
I used to sit at the counter when I was about 10 and annoy Mike with questions. I'm 31 now and he's still there.

Go for lunch and get the beef tips.
Then report back.

I think he's talking about Clint but yes he and Mike have been there forever and Mike is married to the owner's daughter or something like that. The food is good not great but the atmosphere is fantastic and the servers are all pretty hot. I order the same 3 things that are consistently delicious.

I go on Sunday after church and eat the carbonara. No complaints. Good pizza.

For the last 15 years or so, Ive always thought they hired very cute girls to work there. Its been pretty consistent across the board, minus a girl here and there. They seem to have a certain type and dont stray from it.
I dont know who I would say has better. The tits and arse restaurants definitely dont. Walkons LSU you could argue.

If I get fish, I get it with the brown butter and capers. Their wheat GOP is better than their regular pasta. If they don’t have the wheat, I usually get grilled vegetables.
There best dishes:
Veal Digulio (special, ask for it if it’s not on the board)
Pan sautéed soft shell crabs
Veal avenzzano
Veal piccata
Shrimp a la vodka
Red velvet cake
Old fashions

It's a cool neighborhood place...not the best Italian food I've ever had but it's always good...and a fun time

guess i havent been in a while but i have never been there and thought, man the staff looks good.
I haven’t been in 2 years but when I use to go in college they definitely had some good looking women working. Honestly it’s the only place in BR I noticed that had really good look waitresses.
ETA: Out of restaurant that aren’t breastrausts like walk ons

Digulio's - What's the catch?
Food is terrible. Flavorless. Haven't been since 2006.
