Deep Freezer Recs

Well. It finally happened. I moved to Dallas a couple of years ago, and each time I make a drive to or from New Orleans or Baton Rouge, I make the usual stops along the highway to grab some delicious cajun meats from Kartchner's and the likes. These get stored in the freezer, and I do a good job of arranging it so that the newer stuff goes on the bottom.
The freezer above my beer fridge finally filled up, and the freezer in my kitchen finally filled up. I am going to defrost and cook a bunch of it in the coming weeks to free up space. However, I think i'd like to purchase a deep freezer / freezer chest. I've looked at Lowe's and Walmart's prices, and they seem to be about $250-280 for a 7 cubic foot chest.
Any recommendations? Any products to stay away from? Is that too expensive a range or too cheap?

i would stay a away from a deep freezer and get a stand up.
no matter how you organize it you will have stuff at the bottom of that freezer you put in there 4 years ago. and it wont stay organized.

That's valid. Any good recs on a standup?

I've always had a deep freezer. Last month the lid on mine started coming apart. I got an 18 CF Whirlpool for $700 at a local place. Now I wonder why I ever had a deep freezer. This thing is much better.

I bought the cheapest stand-up freezer at Lowes about 10 years ago, still going strong.
Not sure what model, but it's about 5'5 feet tall.
Will buy a bigger one next time.

I have a Frigidaire upright frost free that's probably 12 years old. The defrost timer quits working about every 5 years.
Good luck finding any freezers in stock at this time. Click on any freezer on Home Depots web site and you will get Out of Stock or Back ordered until August 30.

I keep the key tethered to the handle and it locked at all times.
I have had a frozen hunk of temple meat become displaced and crack the door open, luckily it was only open for a few hours and some frost was the only issue.

I have a chest freezer in the garage, as well as an upright cheap top freezer/fridge. If you are a reasonably organized person, a chest/deep freeze isn’t very difficult to keep organized. They’re better, of course, if you’re storing large packages of stuff. I keep multipound quantities of various flours, nuts, and other baking ingredients—in an upright, it would be a pain in the arse to package for the shallow spaces of an upright. In a deep freezer, it can go into a big ol Cambro with no worries.
Some chest freezers have better internal dividers than others. I’d look for one with sliding baskets for the top part and vertical compartment dividers. You can then sort contents by category so you’ll know what’s where. I also encourage taping a sheet of paper to the lid—when you add a bunch of something (fish, sausage, whatevier), you can write it down w/the date. When you use it, scratch it off the list. A tiny bit of inventory control keeps you from forgetting what’s in it.
If you do go deep freeze, get a large one. Yes,they’re more efficient when full, but you can put gallon jugs of water to take up space if it’s half empty. Then you’ll have your emergency water supply squared away as well.

I am in the market as well but I can't find any available and the ones I have found are the 17cuft variety. Basically everywhere I have called says that there was a lot of panic buying and that most of the parts come from China so everything is on hold atm.

Did you try Barto appliance on Airline? Or Comeaux’s? Comeaux has a scratch n dent warehouse selection. You might find a suitable garage freezer in its inventory.
