Honestly, I haven't been but to a couple of places they mention. Cerviche Oyster Bar which they rave about is just ok and Petra and the Beast is different but hit or miss. I've also been to Revelers Hall as a friend of mine is part owner and its a Nola jazz themed place that is fine but a little too schticky for me. But I'm suspect of all the new restaurants they mention with no mention of anything older than 1 or 2 years. There are better places in Big D than what they talk about. It reads more like an advertisement to me.

Zappa have you tried Water Grill in Dallas? It's the only location outside of California and is my favorite restaurant

It's that the noodle bar by mai's and Jimmy's? If so, I've seen them on IG and it looks really good.
Other than that, I haven't heard of much on that list. Haven't been to any.

yes, I need to get over there. Any insight as to why the Grape is closing. I gathered from what I read maybe they weren't putting enough butts in the seats.

I only really use here and Instagram, but I just found an article on it. Man, that's sad. I love that place.

Maybe that’s the goal of their City of the Year designation? I’m honestly not sure. Would make sense though. Shine the light on a city that is “hot right now”, so to speak.
Bon Appétit is killing it these days the way they’ve adapted to online content and a video channel, so I wouldn’t be surprised if their whole intention is to spotlight cities and spots that don’t make the other Best Of lists. Keeps them different and new.

The editorial is produced by magazines and online websites who work with public relations firms that use these restaurants as clients. It's a networking gig. Restaurants trade meals for the publicity.

I know this happens all the time with local media. Is there any definitive proof Bon appetit does this?

Went to in San Diego and that price isnt surprising. It's pretty upscale
I always wanted one of those giant seafood trays with like 3 levels of stuff falling off the plates and we went there. It was awesome. Worth the money if it's as good as the west coast ones

Locally, the restaurant will just swap meals for ad space. For national publications, they will go through their publicist. Obviously I don't know the specifics on how the deal was worked for this advertorial, but it reads like a publicity campaign. Even in your initial post you said it reads like an advertisement. That's because it is. It's how restaurants advertise because they don't have the expendable income to advertise nationally.
