My son is getting married and looking to buy a house. We were looking at their registry and other than a honeymoon fund, it is mostly full of house stuff(glasses, knives, sheets, etc). They did have one of those wooden checker designed cutting boards listed. I had the idea of trying to find one that we could put something like “————- family Est. March 16, 2024.” Do any of you know where I could have something like this done at? It doesn’t have to necessarily be made out of “real” wood. If it just had that look, I think they would like that.

Thanks, I’ll check them out. I don’t know a whole lot about stuff like that. Just thought it would look kind of cool instead of just a plain cutting board.

Rosewood Blocks are awesome. They are expensive though.

Those are beautiful! Looks like something I need. Are they very difficult to keep in good shape? Do they take a little time to care for them? These 2 are going to be just starting their careers and will be going in all kinds of directions. Not sure they’d take the time to keep them up.

Be sure to double check the sizes on Etsy. I bought one off there and it was the size a CD case. It was nice just. Just no surface at all

I have a maple end cut block I’ve had for almost 30 years and I’ve never oiled it. Just soap and hot water and/or a wipe-down with a cloth to dry (usually not even that). As maintenance free as it get but I don’t cut chicken on it. Meat and fish are fine

If you're putting fatty meat on it every week, fine. Otherwise, no oiling will cause the wood to get brittle as it dies out.

To be a mensch, get them a plastic board for poultry, like an Oxo, too. Do poultry, stick in dishwasher.

I used some baws with a company named Five Rivers Woodworks out of bama. I love their stuff, and have bought multiple boards from them.
