Actually, the best restaraunt I went to while I was down there wasnt in Tampa, though but rather Orlando..Little place on Michigan and Orange that had been there a long time called 'Numero Uno Cubano'.

Afreaux, thats where I ate those pasteles that I sent you the pics of (since my mom refused to spend the time to make them from scratch for me this time around). Their caldo gallego was also really really good.

So now we have to censor opinions as to not offend BR people?

I have had a couple of very good ones in NOLA...Union being my favorite thusfar...I have never searched one out in BR...however, clearly Afreaux has...so why should he not give his opinion on this if he believes it to be true.

Why ignore reality...BR is a small city that doesn't have incredible ethnic food in every category...NOLA suffers from this as well...we can't all be New York.

We all know this isn't Cuba or Miami, but damn, if someone wants a Cuban in BR, tell them where they can find the closest thing, instead of being some pompus food snob

That's as stupid as some guy in Minneapolis directing me to Subway when I ask him for a place that sells a muffuletta. Because, hey, that's the closest thing, and he'd be a food snob to actually say "There's no place in Minneapolis that sells a legit muffuletta."

I'm not going to send someone to a place that makes it wrong, just for them to decide that they're not going to try it again if they eventually find a restaurant that makes a legit one. What would someone's take on sushi be if there first time trying it was at Great Wall?

You can pour syrup on dog poop, that doesn't make it pancakes.

It's not being a snob at all...it being knowledgable about a subject and telling it like it is...

Went to Mason's for lunch. It might not have been authentic, but it satisfied my craving for now. Tasty sandwich.

I agree, trying to find a cuban sandwich in a place like BR can be like trying to find a po'boy in Kansas. You might find some tasty deli meat in a hoagie in a faux Cajun restaurant that calls itself a po'boy, but find to the real thing...

Meanwhile there is a specifically Cuban restaurant 60 miles down I-10, so Afreaux recommended that. I really don't see a problem. It's not like Afreaux is saying BR doesn't have authentic Cuban sandwiches because they don't use a specific brand of Cuban style bread.

i had it today, it was very good...probably not too much "cuban" about it...but great flavor....probably their best poboy b/c I usually don't care for their poboys....

As long as Castro's feet are on traditional Cuban bread...its traditional,

Smell or taste doesn't mean shite on the food and drink board.

I couldn't get an answer anyway. Their sitting against the brick wall snoring with lit cigars hanging out of their mouths. Hope the wife's not paying them by the hour.

Take it from me, the Cuban at Maxwell's is nothing special.

I don't know what you could have against the Maxwell's Cuban, it's one of my favorite sandwiches in BR. I'm usually pretty tough to please too.
