What do you account for? I will have 23 adults and 10 kids between 6-12. I’m thinking 3 sacks

Safe bet is 5# per adult and 1-2# per child. Others may disagree.

* Other things to consider - Is there any other food options? (chips/dip, etc) and is this an all day type of thing? Will this be lunch and dinner for people?

You're going to need 4 sacks assuming sacks are around 35 pounds

It depends on who's attending your boil, not just the number. If it's a bunch of baws that can put down some crawfish, then I'd say 5lbs each is a good guess.

But in general for a boil attended by people who like crawfish and know how to peel them (not sure where you live), then it's usually 5 lbs for men and 3 for women. I don't even include kids in my estimate unless they are older and I know they can eat a good bit.

I kinda over-do it and make a spreadsheet with everyone on it and guess-timate how much each will eat, and I've been fairly accurate.

Last weekend I had 17 adults over. I boiled 2 sacks (69 lbs), and that was about the perfect amount. Some sides leftover and just a few crawfish.

3 sacks is probably good.

I'd go 4 sacks.

I do 5 lbs per adult and 3 lbs per crawfish-eating child (not all kids eat crawfish).

I always end up with some left over. But I am the kind of person who gets absolutely mortified at the thought of having a party and running out of food or drink.

The good news is the womenfolk who tend to come to our boils are fine sitting around and peeling leftover crawfish while gossiping and drinking daiquiris while the menfolk get sloshed on beer and stories of the stuff we did when we were younger.

I concur with what others have said----4 sacks to be safe.

Like I mentioned in a prior crawfish post, you also have to account for teenage boys who can often be bottomless pits when it comes to things they like, and the people who insist on just eating crawfish and none of the sides you have cooked.
