This is the main reason I haven't gotten into all the trading/selling. I don't want to pay markups to ship beer all over when I can find really really good beer close to home.

I do, however, search out good beers whenever I travel, and try to bring plenty home. If I'm already checking a bag, then it's no extra cost to me to pack some beer in, as long as I keep it under the weight limit. If I'm driving, load it up.

I definitely do this. We go to the NC mountains every summer and I always load up on stuff I can't get around Bham. Last summer I brought home 3 cases of stuff from Burial Brewing. Their saison is so damn good.

If I remember right, shipping 4-6 beers ran around $10.

I did samples some really excellent beers - Heady Topper, Sips of Sunshine, some from The Veil, some 3 Floyds stuff, brewery only releases from Bell's and Founder's, and many others. In the end it was just too much hassle.

Can't imagine paying black market prices for any of those beers I tried.

That sums up my experience exactly "The Spleen". I think a lot of people go down the same path. They get their mind blown by something like a Heady Topper. Seek it out. Spend tons of time and money getting it. Then come to realize that you can get Ghost off the shelf for 1/2 price and zero hassle for the same experience. If a beer is 90% as good as the ultra rare one, and it's on the shelf, then it's worth it.

However, nothing you're going to buy at Rouses will ever blow your mind. You eventually transform from a craft beer nerd, to just a guy that likes decent beer. And that's ok.

Here in south LA, I'm not so sure (yet). When I opened that Julius up it brought me back to the Juice, Jr. I had from Great Notion in Portland. Nothing I've had since then has brought me back to that experience until a few days ago. Perhaps it's all psychological.

I think this thread is going to have me making some trips soon and coming back with "collectibles"

I've never sold beer, personally. I like the idea of buying it to drink and share with friends.

Same here. It's a hell of a way to get some goodwill with buddies. And most of the beers I get are so damn strong I wouldn't be able to or want to drink the entire bomber by myself.

I was actually looking at that Assassin the other day. Would love to try one, but driving to Iowa doesn't seem too great. I thought Central Waters was in the middle of nowhere...
